Bore Tech Rimfire Blend vs Hoppes

I been using a 50/50 mix of Hoppes & Kroil oil for the past 12-13 years. works great never had a problem with CR. one barrel is about 9 years old. one thing is that I am a firm believer in brushing the bore. I am happy if I can get 8 cleanings per brush before I regulate them for scrubbing the leade or toss them.

Lee,
why brush/scrub the chamber at all? However careful you may be, however slight the carbon, the beauty of C4 is……simply soak, done.

I started out using BT Rimfire Blend, but for the last couple years been using your system of 50/50 Kroil& Hoppes No. 9 with a bronze brush, but only after a match. During a match, between cards I push 2 clean patches through the bore, then 10 strokes with a bronze brush and finally 3 clean patches - 3 shots and POI is back (Shilen "ratchet" barrels and CX).

When I want to do a really thorough cleaning, I do use BT RFB.

Tim,
I am already running a brush down the bore. makes perfect sense to scrub the chamber too.

I only scrub the bore after a match too. I run a wet VFG pellet with the 50/50 blend then 3 dry ones. I do this after every card.

I kind of missed your point, I am not concerned about damaging the leade. this may shock a lot of shooters but I also, will scrub the last 6-8" of the bore before the crown, same as scrubbing the leade. I been doing this on the same barrel for the last 7-8 years no problems. and can still shoot like this.

Hoppes has always done a decent job for me and both rifles perform well. I’ve been reading how many folks really like the Bore Tech product.

Thanks
If your rifles are performing well, why would you want to change to something else and spend more money?

Incidentally, my rifles perform very well including my rimfire Tikka T1X with Hoppe No. 9. The key is using a bronze brush, at least in my experience. But this is just my experience, I am not an "expert" or benchrest shooter, just a varmint and predator hunter. However, my target does talks to me and lets me know is something is going sideways. For the past half century, the target likes Hoppe's No. 9 or Shooter's Choice. ;)

The rimfire blend works great I just got back into rimfire again and it makes cleaning so easy... When I am done I stick a jag with a soaked patch into the bore to dissolve any carbon ring... I gave up on hoppies years ago and only keep it around till what I have is used up... Times have changed and products have gotten better , some have gotten worse but what you use to clean is still personal preference... All you can do is try some and make a decision....

My borescope tells me that Hoppes doesn't clean anything well. When I stopped using it in my centrefires I had lots left over and decided to use it up in my rimfires. I was surprised that it didn't work well on them either. RF Blend and C4 defeat carbon rings and fouled throats in my .22lr's very effectively. I won't be buying anymore Hoppes #9.
Hoppe's No. 9 is good for cleaning M14 clone gas systems if you can get it at throwaway prices, and not much else. I switched to Shooter's Choice, which was better. After that, I went to Wipe Out Patch Out, which is great. After using that for a long time, I tried some Shooter's Choice and remembered why I switched. Hoppe's No. 9 falls far behind Shooter's Choice.

The shooter choice stuff really always works pretty well.... I used their shotgun cleaner the other day for the first time after my buddies just loved it and it worked great but you definitely have to use it outside... The smell is rough... But it cleaned parts that where black with carbon I thought would never come clean... They now look brand new again...

That's a great target... You've got a shooter there...

Thanks for all the informative comments!! Even though my Hoppes seems to be doing a decent job of cleaning I decided to give the Rimfire Blend a try. I also thought I'd try Bore Tech's Carbon C4 carbon remover. I've read about the "carbon ring" that develops in rimfires and not certain if my rifles have that but what the heck give it a go.

Thanks again for the responses!

Finally, someone posts a target to back up their assertions. Excellent shooting! Whatever you're doing, keep doing it.

I always believed, and still do that the target is the ultimate indicator if you what you're doing is producing the best results. I know that isn't a popular notion these days but it has never failed me.

That's why after winning our last two matches I'm staying with my cleaning regimen. Till I start losing that is, then I may have to reconsider. :D

I just tried Hoppe's Bench Rest No. 9 Copper Remover Gun Bore Cleaner. I think, surprisingly, it shows some promise and might be easier to get than my standard Wipe-Out Patch-Out.

When I am working with cleaning agents, I don't care about target results. I just care that I am getting the bore clean. I can see that, and by borescope, if need be.

Different strokes for different folks. ;)

Certainly, the majority of modern shooters would agree with you judging from what I read on this forum and elsewhere. So, you are in step with the "herd". :) Whereas I am a stray wondering in the wildness of firearms cleaning.

What I post is based off experiences and what I see. some folks will argue that it is wrong but as long as my results are good it doesn't matter. I am very happy with my match results.
