Bore sighting problem

Hi there,

Yep... first timer on the forum. Here's the problem, i mounted a Meopta scope on my tikka T3 varmint in 308 Win, and i just can't align the crosshair of my scope with the center line of my bore sighter (it's an optical one). the elevation knob won't go up enough, it stop at 1line below the center (1 line = 4 inch on target). Never had that kind of problem before with the scopes i installed on other rifles. I also tried another type of bore sighter, laser cartridge inside the bore with the same result. The windage adjustment is ok, no problem with that part...

The scope is a Meopta, Meopro series, 6 x 18 -50mm obj. The scope is almost touching the barrel with the rings i installed, less than 1/16 of an inch. Scope is brand new out of the box purchased in a gunshop.

So, if anyone has any clue about my situation just tell me please... so i can enjoy shooting that gun!!

What rings , bases ,(if any ) and remember down is up , up is down , anyway you get the message . Any diff if the barreled receiver is out of the stock ? How high is centerline of scope above bore center . How short is your barrel ?
So you are basically thinking your gonna be 4" high , I would first bore sight it the old fashion way , remove bolt ,steady rifle , aim at a distant point 50-100 yds away ,(aiming thru barrel ), and see what it looks like , thru the scope then actually shoot it .
Yes Ive had this problem , usually with very high scopes ,short barrels and or wrong bases / rings . If this still does not work , remove rings , use a straight edge ,at least 24-36" long , on bases or receiver . If allis well install ring bottoms , recheck with straight edge with receiver base leveled ( machinist ) something should show .
Good luck

If you are using two piece bases, and they are of different heights but the same bolt centers, could they be reversed?

If you're using signature Z rings your spacer/shim thickness may be out of spec. This happened to a friend recently.

Or just installed incorrectly.

Thank you to all of you,

After reading the replies and suggestions, i inserted paper shims in the front ring to give some height/ angle on the front. Next step, firing range. i was able to bore sight properly with my paper trick!! anyway those rings are just temporary, i'm going with Talley light mount any time soon...

Until next time!
