bore scope

This is what I have been using for about 3 years now. It has a 45 degree angle mirror but after I used once I never used it again. It as a 1 meter fiberoptic cable although some come with a 3 meter cable. Mine fits in a 22 caliber bore without much room to spare. I only use it for checking for barrel cleaning, and rifling when I buy a new barrel. I'm not a gunsmith so it works well enough for me. The fact that is not fragile is big plus. It will record pictures and videos, but the quality is fairly mediocre. I have YouTube video out there if someone is interested.

YouTube link ?? Thanks for your input.

if you have 200 bucks to blow the Lyman is well worth the money, I purchased 1 about a month ago and it suits the need well, going to test my cleaning routine shortly. I could be shocked or not surprised, good little tool to have

The big brown truck just dropped one (Teslong Bore-Scope) off at my door. Charging the battery in it now, but will edit in some review later on. Already have a Lyman and a Hawkeye to compare it to.

Note: it came with a 90-degree mirror accessory, making the speculated reply above untrue.

All for now,
Donovan

Here. Its a 32" barrel and it can go all the way throught he action to the end of the barrel. Some of the best money I've spent was on this borescope. You'lll quickly see that some of the claims made by people here regarding cleaning of a barrel are nonsense.

So, what are we seeing @ 0:24?

Joe, I have...or should I say had....a Lyman scope. It is decent for the money and gives a fair image quality bit I found that significant color aberration interfered with interpretation of the images at times. The mirror/lens is not robust and can easily be damaged with even careful cleaning...I've got the teeshirt:rolleyes:. However, you get what you get for $250 or so. I have a Hawkeye incoming;). I have worked with very expensive rigid fiberoptic instruments and understand that high quality is high $$$$ so my expectations were met with the Lyman. I would expect similar performance from the Teslong and would be under no illusion that it would perform as well as a $1K+ unit.

Steve,
Just curious, but what advantages does a lyman 20" rod have over the flexible 36" cable of the Teslong unit? Does the rod have a glass tube inside or a fiberoptic filament? Is it worth the extra $70-80?

Joe
I don't know I just mainly want to check the chamber area 1st 10 inches and the crown and locking lug area, it does well enough for those. I would love to have a hawkeye, but I don't shoot comp I really didn't need the Lyman but I done some throating and wanted to see how big a mess I made, plus I can check reloading dies and my teeth lol, have a great day Joe

It's a piece of cotton thread from my cleaning patches.

Believe it or not, more often than not, 1 or 2 little pieces like thart get left behind. They've never been an issue for me. I shoot F-Open and I'm more worried about the heat generated by the 7SAUM 180 grain bullet going at 3,000+ fps. I'm pretty sure that little threat doesn't stand a chance of slowing things down.

Joe
Thanks. I figured it was something like that. Interesting video. It makes me interested in that borescope.

Okay... got the Teslong charged up and played with it a bit. So here is some review:

- Very clear picture is displayed on the LCD screen, better then my Lyman - IMO
- Zooms to 1X, 2X, 3X, 4X - very clear on them all.
- Lighting is the best I've seen, from 6 LED's in the camera head that have 3 intensity settings (low, medium, high). Even on low I would say its better then my Lyman.
- With the 90-degree mirror accessory on, what I would call a very high quality image appears on the LCD screen. Very nice and much better then my Lyman - IMO
- Haven't messed with the camera or video capturing yet.

Downfalls:
- With the accessory ends on the Probe, it will be more limited to how small a caliber they can be used in.
Here are my own diameter measurements for the accessories and a picture of them and the probe shaft:
  • .23785” = thread protector
  • .25570” = magnetized thread protector
  • .24770” = hook end
  • .24865” = 90-degree mirror
  • .21705” = Probe shaft diameter, without a thread protector, stop, or mirror
Teslong1j.jpg

Without any accessory on the Probe shaft, it should work to about 0.218" bores.
With all the accessories, they will not fit into any caliber smaller then .257", which is a major disappointment to me since my primary caliber is .243/6mm.

I plan on contacting Teslong about the issue of the accessory diameters and also to see if I can get extra accessories, so that I can attempt to "turn down" the thread protector and the mirror, to under .236 diameter so that I can use them in my .243/6mm barrels (.236/.237" bores).

All for now,
Donovan

.
Did you buy the 5.5mm head,. or the 5.1 mm head ?

I have the Lyman bore cam, with the built in 90 degree mirror. Not the best BUT it will give you a good picture of what is going in the barrel.(especially carbon ring) I shoot 6mm Dasher so the 90 mirror for the Teslong would not work for me (size wise). A few years ago, I bought a bore scope that worked with my computer thru the USB port. Was less than $25 bucks. No 90 mirror, straight on view, same image as Joe had on you tube.
As rardoin said the mirror of the Lyman bore cam is not very robust, and I too have the T shirt. Must be handled with TLC when attempting to clean. I would be interested in the Teslong if a small enough 90 mirror would come with it.

Donovan, let us know what you find out about smaller accessaries

Has anyone one used the one that Larry Wills has for sale on his site
Yes, bought one of Larry Willis's units for my son around a eighteen MOs ago. It's a decent unit, for what it does. Good adjustable light and long cable, but no 90* mirror. Good picture on screen and is fine for general bore inspections.

The one thing it does best is keeping my son's mitt off my Hawkeye.

@Just Dave -
I bought the "NTS150B", which is advertised on Teslong website as 5.1mm
It measures a hair more then .217" (+5.5mm) diameter with my micrometer.

Thanks, that's the one I ordered .. They state it can fit in firearms as small as an AR15 ,, they must mean without any attachments then, from what your saying.
And same here, the 243 was the one gun I really wanted to monitor .

Well, that's weird.. Apparently they changed designs .. No threaded end, No attachments to thread on.. Camera appears to be fixed center You can change the focal point, near to far, 3? levels of light, lowest setting was fine for my .22 calibers, maybe I will need more light for larger bores ?.. Without attachments, it easily fits down the barrel of my 22LR ,, BUT ,, The more I look at it, the more likely it's going back .. Without a 90-degree angle viewer, the "clear" part of the image is a ring around the edge of the screen, which shows you about 3/4" section clearly on a 3.5" screen, everything else is blurry, Hardly a dedicated bore inspection tool, But I guess it would at least allow you look around inside somewhere you normally couldn't .. Not sure it's $169 worth..
