Bore protection for long term storage

Ive been using marine 2-stroke oil. Short or long term. Has corrosion prevention, clings to metal, non drying. An ounce is probably a lifetime supply. I have several lifetimes out in shed. Have been disappointed with both Corrosion X and Boeshield. Of course dry patches before firing.

When I went to Viet Nam, I took the wood off my guns and wrapped them in newspaper and drenched them in automotive motor oil. When I got home and cleaned them up - absolutely no rust or bluing discoloration.

So for long term storage I use 30 weight motor oil.

ON that note, I always heard that Mobil 1 was the best at inhibiting rust.

Go with the Rigs , just got home from 2 years in Europe and all my stuff was A OK using rigs and plastic gun storage bags . us it like Cosmoline , worked great !

As @M-61 pointed out, this is a 2-year old thread... lol
Regardless, for long term storage, grease is my choice. Eliminating air as much as possible.

I use axle grease inside and out for long term storage. It stinks, but it does the job and is thick enough not to migrate leaving some parts unprotected.

I saw sewing machine oil.... I did this after rescuing my guns but loseing everything else in a Forest fire.. 3 in 1 oil is all I had at the time..BIG mistake... It turned to varnish and was heck to get out of my automatics it stained everything and turned into gum.... Never never again.. I just threw away a bottle I found out in my shop yesterday... For long long term storage just use grease... I lube every barrel with slip 2000 ewl after I clean them.. Just don't forget to clean the barrel before you shoot it...

That stuff doesn't work very well at all for long term storage. It rated pretty low in a lot of comparison tests.
+1. When I first started competing in SR BR, Kroil was seen everywhere in the loading area between relays......Now... not so much. Here is why I dislike it....1/ it reeks to high heaven 2/ it turns to gum in short order (look at the top of your Kroil can) 3/ The "oil that creeps" takes forever for the bore to get conditioned >too many foulers for me, whereas a very light coating of a good high pressure oil like Butches and one and done foulers are pretty much typical with all my rifles- hunting and comp.

I have used EEZOX since the first formal corrosion test was published in the bulletin here several years ago. I have pretty much a lifetime supply.

Since the advent of the new WD-40 Corrosion Product (sold under the WD-40 brand along with other products, but is something completely different from old WD-40), and results of another formal corrosion test published here, I have been recommending it to my friends. Just because it is easier to get.

When I brought home my dad’s K-80 tube set this weekend after he gave it to me (he has advanced Parkinson’s and hasn’t shot for years), I felt very good about protecting it with EEZOX.

I'm familiar with LPS 2 and like it, but it's not thick enough for long term storage, me thinks.
I'll have to order a can of LPS 3 and see what I think of it. Thanks for the suggestion.
It gets plenty thick. Won’t wash off in saltwater spray. Still there after 400 hours. Hope it works for you
