Bore Guides

#1 Everyone has their opinion as to the best bore guide to use. Now if you would please state the reasons, or facts as to what you based your decision on.

# 2 While we are still flogging the dead horse let's open the other part of the equation. Cleaning rods ,and why, the facts as to why.
Facts, and only the facts
Lots of older posts, or threads, any new information.

Thank you.!

I agree everyone will have their own opinion as to which is better, now what are they basing their preference on.
I will be purchasing both a new bore guide and a cleaning rod for a new build shortly, what makes Brand A better than Brand B

I've used several bore guides over the years but love and trust Pat Reagan at pma tool. As far as rods there are several good ones but only a few great ones imo. Montana and Dewey's are the great one to me. Dewey's are my choice cause I can them local. Smooth as glass

I can see several features ( reasons to purchase)on the PMA bore guide others do not have.
Have not yet seen what makes one cleaning rod better than others as with todays technology they all offer the same benefits. Dewey's may be great however I do not like the Male thread on the end and using another adapter to thread on the jags, and or brushes.

Thank you

Dewey rods are great. There are lots of jags and brushes with a female thread. Check Brownells.

The PMA bore guides are made of aluminum. Great quality. The solvent port and separate guide piece keep the mess to a minimum. They are alittle longer than most and require a longer rod.

A dab of loctite on the adapter and it essentially becomes part of the rod.

IMO the important feature to look for is a bushing that goes on the rod and fits in the back of the guide to improve the fit. PMA and Lucas make this sort of guide. Both will work just fine. Lucas prefers to communicate by email and responds in a timely manner.

Have just looked at PMA bore guide , when I get the rod sorted out will give Lucas a e mail.

Thank you Sir.

Interesting informative thread. Thank you for starting it.

My preference is the Lucas followed by the PMA. For rods, I started with the coated Dewey rods and tried others as they came along. The Deweys are still my first choice.

Good shootin' -Al
Why is the Lucas preferred over the PMA
What does one do that the other doesn't.

Thank you.
