Bore Cleaning

After finishing what looked like a clean bore using Shooter Choice, I decided to try some Kreen which is made by Kano Labs, makers of Kroil. Kreen is intended to remove sludge and carbon inside engines so I figured why not carbon in a rifle bore.. I soaked my bore brush and ran it thru 10 strokes and ran a patch thru. It came out black! I thought Shooters Choice had cleaned it after getting nearly clean patches out of the bore. I repeated this 5 times before the patches started to clear up. Once I finished with the Kreen, I rinsed the bore with brake clean, dried it and treated it with Militec 1. I was surprised how much carbon came out after the SC cleaning. I did another rifle with Kroil with similar results except that the Kroil was more oily than the Kreen. Thought I'd share the results.

What kind of brush did you use? Carbon is concentrated near the throat, it would be best to use something that you can short-stroke in this area, like a patch or nylon brush. How has this treatment affected the first few shots? Does it require more foulers than the old regimen of just using SC?

Ken, what were the final results after cleaning? Did you bore scope the barrel after? the reason i'm asking is i just got 1 quart of Kreen, and want to try it. any tips you have would be very helpful.

I recently decided to test Corrosion X bore cleaner since I really like their rust preventive/lube. I ran 3 wet patches thru the bore and followed that with 25 brush strokes and as you can see in 2 of the bore scope pics, only powder fouling was removed. No hard carbon or copper was removed at all. The last picture is after 10 brush strokes of my mix of Flitz and Iosso. The corrosion X CLP (same as the red can contents) cleans better than the bore cleaner. Dont waste your time and money.

I am interested to learn the details of your mixture and exactly how you use it. Thanks.
