Bore cleaner

I use Butch's Bore Cleaner.

Recently bought a Lyman Borecam and inspecting my barrels with it, the Butch's is doing quite well for me.

My gunsmith gave me a bottle of bore tech eliminator. Best ive ever used

What he said!!!

+2 VERY good stuff. Their carbon cleaner is also very good. :) WD

Piling on for Bore Tech. Eliminator does a tremendous job and the Carbon Remover is outstanding as well - especially if you have an AR.

What is a good all around cleaner. Been using mc-7 any suggestions???

BoreTech Eliminator is a good general purpose bore cleaner. I have been using it for quite a while. It is very effective on copper fouling and loose carbon fouling. However, there are more effective (faster) copper solvents, and Eliminator alone does not remove hard burnt-on carbon fouling. I like it for frequent use on hand-lapped barrels that tend not to accumulate heavy fouling. It works fast enough for me when the fouling is minimal and I like its water-based qualities.

For rough bores and for removal of hard carbon fouling, I have found that more aggressive copper solvents and mild abrasive pastes are more effective (faster) cleaners.

For high quality barrels, frequent cleaning with Eliminator and bronze brushes, frequent borescoping to detect hard carbon buildup and carbon removal with an abrasive cleaner, is a very efficient method of bore maintenance.

But keep in mind, BoreTech Eliminator will produce false positive results on your patch if you are using a brass jag. It is an aggressive surfactant that will turn a patch blue in a matter of seconds after contact with brass. I use aluminum jags with this cleaner.

Have used Eliminator & C4 and found that the C4 seems to get everything done on all my hand lapped barrels, though Eliminator is more aggressive on copper. Also, don't forget the Wipe-Out products; they are good, too - just a bit slow sometimes.

As far as cleaning rods, I have never experienced anything better than my one piece SS Ivy rods - they don't give the false positive for copper & will probably last a lifetime with proper care. Also a really good boreguide is needed; I use Mike Lucas guides in everything anymore, never found anything better and he will make them to custom specs with no hassle.
