Bore Buddy

Just wondering if anyone has tried this product? It's a die that is supposed to increase the B.C. and correct some runout on 22lr bullets. I watched a video from Lead Fever. First one of his I've ever seen. A buddy brought my attention to it. Curiosity has me.

I just wonder, if you can close up the meplat and point a cf bullet to increase the B.C. and performance can you do something similar to a 22lr bullet? Tell me what you think.

I've not heard of this product, but I've got a Waltz Die that will make cheapo 22lr ammo shoot better, group better, be more accurate for plinking, squirrels, sage rats, etc at 50 yds or so. The Waltz Die can make regular round nose ammo into either a HP or form an Eley flat nose with tip on it depending on which insert you use. Works just like a CF die, it's adjustable, and you just have to do "load development" in terms of how much "squeezing" you do on the lead to get a lot of 22lr ammo to shoot good/better in your RF. I use a LEE hand held press with mine .

I'm guessing these are basically the same type of die sets. From the video that I watched from Lead Fever on YouTube the Bore Buddy die does the same.

I just searched and seen the Waltz die set, very similar to the Bore Buddy.

When I first got into RF, I bought a Waltz die. It definitely will improve cheap bulk ammo. When I switched to match ammo, I no longer needed it, so it was sold. Good for what it was designed for.

Just a heads up for those who don't know and also compete, especially sanctioned, this procedure would be illegal for competition.

Yes that is correct. I may have to buy one just to tinker and play with. I shoot ARA which you cannot alter the bullets. It will be fun to test in some lesser ammunition.

Neal Waltz retired, and sold off the die rights to Bore Buddy from what I heard. I have two sets of Neal’s die. They work good on cheaper ammo.

About a year ago, after Waltz sold his die operation, I contacted Neal Waltz via email for information on the new owner and pricing. This what I got back in response:

This concept is not patented to my knowledge. That is why Bore Buddy has one as well as whoever makes the Lil Gizzy. Lil Gizzy is the most economical and has the option of a hand held model or one designed for use in a reloading press. This is the hand held version:

I personally don't have the money to give one a try. But I guess the right guy could talk me into one.
