Berger Hunting VLD vs. Hybrid

Anyone have any input as to the performance, accuracy wise, of Berger's hunting VLD vs. the hybrid? Particularly the .264 140gr bullets. The hybrid has a slightly higher B.C. than the hunting bullet of .618 vs .612 respectively, but just wondering if anyone has experienced any differences in the two regarding performance characteristics besides how they perform on game?

Thanks,

In both the 6 Dasher and a 300 WSM the hunting VLD outshot the Hybrid. I use the hunting version because the jackets seem to be formed better, and more consistent. I have shot many good groups at 1000 with both calibers. I don't have any experience with the 6.5 though. Other guys have good luck with the Hybrid. I have used the hunting version for deer and it really works for me. I wouldn't use the Hybrid for deer because I feel you might get pass through. Matt

Simple choice. One is for hunting, the other isnt. BC wise for a hunting gun your not going to see any practical difference. But the VLD is easier to tune. 10 thou past touching and your there. The hybrid seems to be a little more finicky to get exactly right but has a large window where its nearly there. Seating depth insensitive is about right, jump tolerant not always.

All I can say is the 185 hybrids shot allot more consistent than the 175 vld in my 308. Allot easier to keep in a tuning window as well. I have shot some small critters with the hybrid and in pencil holed and went right through. Not the case with the hunting VLD. Now the classic hunters are a good choice now. Not tried any yet. Matt

Thanks all for your input. I am just getting started with my load development and just wanted to experiment a little. Based on your comments and those of others on other forums I am leaning toward the Hunting VLDs. My rifle was built primarily to be a long range hunting rig and not a 1000 yd bench rifle, although the rifle will be shot occasionally at that distance or further when I get together with my shooting buddies. I have 300 or so hunting VLDs and will shoot them for a bit to see how it goes.

I have had the same experience with the hunting VLD's shooting noticeably better out of my 260 at long range. Hybrids shot good but not as good as the hunting.
