bolthead on savage target action same as regular action?

I am changing from 223 to 6br on a savage target action(that is on the way so i dont have it to look at). Are the boltheads different on the target actions vs the regular actions?

Nope... they are the same. I swap mine between my 110 and Target Action. Luck, Tim

The 6 BR bolt head diameter is .475 and the .223 is .378". So, yes they are different. But, you can buy the larger bolt head and its an easy install. Which model Savage? You need to think about loading port length too.

thanks for help guys, just wasnt sure if they would interchange other than the case diameter difference from bolt to bolt.

The firing pin diameters behind the tip were different for the some of them. The cross pin and the back side of the bolt heads have to fit your pin diameter. I went through this while making up some switch barrel M10's. It was relatively easy to drill out the small size to match the larger to make everything uniform. Going the other way would have meant replacing the firing pin parts to match the smaller hole. Something to look out for.

just swapped out a lrpv in 223 to 308 the only thing i had to do is order a left hand bolt head and swapped out the 223 baffle to one from a 308 (also swapped out my mod 12 308 to a 223) .other than that everything worked fine headspaced then waiting to shoot.
