Bolt Handle Tig Welding Fixture

STS

Silver $$ Contributor
I'm trying to come up with a good workable fixture for tig welding on handles. Anyone have anything to share idea wise that seems to do the job well? I have a couple concepts in mind but I would certainly like to see what other folks have made. Thanks

I often use this fixture from Brownell's.

Here's the jig I made to silver solder handles on. The left lug is located on a flat up front in the v-block then a gage is used to locate the rotation of the handle in the same plane. there are three locations for the20221005_123341.jpg clamping screw depending on action length. It would work fine for Tig welding20221005_123326.jpg

I use this same jig, Before that I used 2 small machinist's vices, One to hold the bolt body with and the other to hold the handle, And just put shims under or move it higher in the vice.

Thanks Dave. I assume the gauge that you are referring to is to locate the strap of the handle on the same plane as the bottom of the left lug to establish clocking of the handle? That system looks like it would allow adequate room to maneuver a gas torch or tig torch.

That's what the gage is for. Then we have the conversation of timing the extraction cam on the handle. I thought about making up a jig to go in the mill to shorten the strap. Better outcome that way.

Gonna have to cut the end of the strap off a bit to time it

Made this one from scrap in the junk box some 40 years ago. Mocked up with an Enfield bolt to show how it works. Adjustable in any direction. Made it when I was doing a lot of Mauser and Enfield work. Rude and crude but it holds everything securely.

You gear heads will recognize the Rod End with the bearing part removed.

Thanks for the input gentlemen. I'm sure I can fabricate something that will get the job done. I can assemble a few pieces of aluminum that's hanging around, and maybe some spare parts to a flush toilet, and I can come up with something to hold things where they should be to stick them together. :)
