Bolt face to small need help

So I decided to do my first build using my 30-06 howa 1500 action. I didn’t do the best research before buying a new barrel chambered in 28 nosler. Got it it put together to find out the bolt face is to small, seems like my only option would be to opening it up or is there other options?

Ouch. As stated above thats gonna be a bit of work... if it is possible. Also as stated that cartridge will not fit the mag length.
How long is your bbl and whats the contour? Asking because your onlyboption woukd be a new bolt and likely single feeding or a rechamber on your current barrel.

Hopefully I am wrong and your bolt can be opened up. I dont remember what kind of extractor howa runs. Someone who knows more will hopefully chime in.

What Walt said. Lots of issues to overcome. It's all doable but likely at a price point that's not worth it with a Howa. I'd call Howa and see what new bolt costs..

It’s a 26” mcgowen with a pac nor#6 contour. I ended up puttin a mdt oryx chassis on it. The cartridge length should be the same as a 06 so hoping I can find a single stack that will work. Waiting for a call back from local gunsmith hopefully he will have good news. Will post what he says

First off, sorry that sucks.

Your choices as I see it:

1 - Go to the 280ai and sell the 28 Nosler
2 - see about opening it up - the least desirable of the list in my opinion
3 - put the 06 back together and buy a long action mag bolt face
4 - find someone to swap bolts

Good luck!

a. The hot, new 7mm Backcountry runs the same bolt face as the 06'.

b. Would it be possible to rebate the rim on the 28 Nos brass or would that cause bolt thrust issues?

c. Find out if a replacement bolt is an option.

Never owned or worked on a Howa...

That said, it's much more than cartridge length. It's a rebated-rim cartridge with a .534 rim and body diameter of .550 at the base, if the receiver is not designed for fat magnums it will need to have the feed rails opened up.
