Bolt action pistols

shooter thats a beauty. Care to tell us a little about it. We know its a XP, McMillan stock, in 6BR. I'm curious about the rest of the details and what you have planned for it. Nosey old guy aren't I.
All that you noticed 6 br Norma turn neck .268 with a full action work over, 1.25"contour, 1:8 twist brux barrel, jewel br trigger built by Robert Vestal out of Virginia. Going to be a switch barrel rig has a pinned recoil lug also. Not sure on my next barrel leaning towards a sporter contour for a hunting rig.

shooter that's a top of the line Xp with a excellent pedigree of parts. Still curious what you have planned for it.
When I started the idea and gathering what was needed. Had plans on egg shoots out to 500 yards back home in Ky until I moved. But now I'm working away from home a lot more so I will practice small groups at distance until works not in the way.

I've always been very interested in these super accurate long distance pistols. This build has been on my mind and in the works since I got my first contender in or about 1993.

Why do you like a rear grip or a center grip? I imagine it would be tough to use rifle optics, what do you use?

I wish I could, I'll be chasing Kudu on those dates. Maybe I can get a pistol built and join in the fun next year.

I like both the rear grip and center grip. I've pretty much gone to all rifle scopes as they just work so much better than pistol scopes. If you decide to build one allow yourself a full year to put it together, barrels are about 3-4 months, good stocks are one of the hardest things to come up with. McMillans are about 5-6 months. Once you have all the parts then you have smith time unless you do the work yourself.

I'll be at Sundance again this year. It's once of the nicest groups of ladies and gentlemen you will find.

Very nice rig. What stock is that. It's a looker!! And I'am not seeing a safety??

Thanks. It's a McMillan stock and you are correct, there is no safety. The action is a Rem XP-100 that was trued by BAT Engineering in 1996.
They also did the bolt fluting and coneing and also installed a Sako extractor. The extractor was changed to an AR-15 extractor in 1999.
All this was done before the pistol came to me.

I got the pistol from Ron Hoehn in April of 2014 and it came with three barrels. The three barrels are now chambered in 6 Dasher, 6 BR, and 22 BR.
They were 22 PPC, 6 PPC & 6 PPC-Short.

I'm gonna have a 6BRA made soon, maybe I'll round up the components for a pistol and chamber it too with the same reamer. I appreciate the info everyone has pitched in.

Why do you like a rear grip or a center grip?
IMHO, I would prefer a rear grip. My guess is most SPs arn't going to be used "one handed" so the rear grip stock would make it better to use a rest of some sort? Center grip would allow the rig to rock back from recoil. Now if it was a "stock" XP in .221 Fireball, you could get by with the center grip. Not enough recoil to deal with compared to something like the BIG SPs (.338 Cheytac Imp) . Longer barrels on the SP rigs help hold the front end of the rig "down" in place. And as mentioned earlier, rear grip SP stocks can be hard to come by. :( Somebody needs to start making them (rear grip stocks) in laminated or solid wood AGAIN.;)
