Bolt action pistols

IMHO, I would prefer a rear grip. My guess is most SPs arn't going to be used "one handed" so the rear grip stock would make it better to use a rest of some sort? Center grip would allow the rig to rock back from recoil. Now if it was a "stock" XP in .221 Fireball, you could get by with the center grip. Not enough recoil to deal with compared to something like the BIG SPs (.338 Cheytac Imp) . Longer barrels on the SP rigs help hold the front end of the rig "down" in place. And as mentioned earlier, rear grip SP stocks can be hard to come by. :( Somebody needs to start making them (rear grip stocks) in laminated or solid wood AGAIN.;)
I think Preacher might make some wood versions. Thanks for input!

Taking the Plunge. Just bought a 15in, 1 in 8, Brux straight barrel from Shooter74. Time to figure the rest out.

If your thinking about a McMillan center grip stock there is a group buy going on right now at S P. $325 plus shipping 5-6 month lead time. That's as good as it gets. They are currently up to 30 some stocks ordered and working on 40. Another good option for laminate is Norm LaFlame at Royal arms. I have 2 of his stocks and you can't beat them for the price and availability.

I have one that I enjoyed It has 4 barrels
22.250. 6 mm br , 7. 08. And 300 R ultra mag . Being a savage I can put all my small shank savage barrels on it . My dasher barrel and the ultra mag was a hoot shooting 1000 yd gongs with it . Larry

It's a shame you can't get a rear grip McMillan anymore. I'd get on the group buy if that was an option.

If you're into building and want a rear grip stock, try the Richard's Micro-Fit "pistol grip style stock". Get it in the action inlet that will fit your rig, cut the back end off and you've got the BIG start to your rear grip. Action inlet, what color laminate you want, how wide the forearm and you're almost there. I don't need one but I want one. Just need to decide what inlet.;)

I checked it out. Slick idea.

A bunch of the guys on Specialty Pistols.com are using those stocks. A little expen$ive but nice stocks. I'll stick to the laminated or solid wood.;)

I'm thinking I want a rear grip. I looked up Royal Arms and he has two centered grip pistols in his gallery. I'll call in the morning and see if offers a rear grip version. I'll post his link too.

Norm doesn't do rear grip XP stocks unfortunately.

Here is an interesting read on a rear grip XP stock.

I got so frustrated trying to find a rear grip Savage PTA stock that I purchased a Choate Varmint and gave it the hack saw treatment. It actually turned out nice and didn't break an old retired guys bank account.

Ive never owned a bolt action pistol. I've been intrigued by them and since roaming around this site I've seen some really nice pictures of custom bolt action pistols, Preacher and his rigs come to mind. Is there a website dedicated to bolt action pistols that is in depth with its info? I'm thinking of building a small center fire pistol and would like to avoid as many mistakes as possible. Just curious if there's something out there that might help in this regard.

I found a Savage Striker in 243 Win 2 years ago. I re barrel with a CBI barrel in 6 BR, great shooting gun.
