If an heirloom quality is important, by all means get an Anschutz. On a budget, Tikka T1x, then CZ something. I would look for a used Anschutz over anything American made, unless you are looking at an old Rem 513T or Win 52.

Put an accurate rifle in his hands to start. He won't learn to shoot well with a rifle that is not accurate. Rate of fire should be the last priority. Get a good bolt gun.

I didnt know remington had made a bolt action 22, besides the very expensive 40x, in many many years.

It's possible it was a .17 that got put back where it shouldn't have been. The .22s were right next to the .17s.

Just looked at it online. I like the looks and chassis-style setup of it, but the goofy cocking handle really bugs me. Reminds me of a Mosin.

After watching the videos, I think the Rascal might be the better value. Lots of extras in a nice package deal. And its Savage, probably gonna shoot pretty good as well.

I have a few rascals for the kids. Besides the useless sights they are excellent. None of that manual cocking BS kids dont need.

Well, I found a CZ 457 Varmind for $550 at my local hardware store. Now just need to find a Scout stock and get a pic./weaver rail adapter!
