2 alternatives to blueing -

Following all the procedures to the letter, polishing, degreasing, applying cold blue, oiling etc can be successful and cost effective.

I'm not sure whether Duracoat is available in your area, but their spray on coating also works well, and will "blue" stainless.

Rust Bluing is actually pretty easy and requires very little equipment.

For just a bolt, an overpriced small bottle of oxpho blue will be fine.
