Blueprinting Rem 700 triggers

Looking for info on the blueprinting of the old style Rem 700 triggers. I know a few BR smiths offer the service, Neil Jones off the top of my head. I was curious to the level of involvement.

I would think that by the lack of response's says volume's. Basically you have to look at what it cost's versus what an aftermarket trigger cost's. I changed out a couple triggers to shilen's and was very happy I did because in the end you have a Remington trigger that may or may not be much better.

You are right, it ain't a Jewel and it never will step up to be the same. I have 2oz Jewels on my two 6ppc's. I just finished having a benchrest 6br built to get into the 600 yard game. Now that I am retired I don't have the money that I did when the two 6 PPCs were built so I had to do the 6 BR build economically. One of the places where we cut back was on the trigger. My builder said that he could take my older Remington trigger and bring it down to close to a 3 to 4 ounce trigger for a fraction of the cost of investing into a jewel. The finished product was a pleasant surprise. It turned out to be right at 4 ounces with a sharp no creep break. No, it doesn't come up to the standards of my two Jewels but I am very happy with the results and the extra money can now go to other areas of the build that I think will give me more accuracy than the investment into a jewel would. The only question is, will the Remington trigger job hold.

I have a lot of Jewells, but if you are going cheap, get a Shilen. They are very good triggers!

I for one, would never trust a 700 trigger, set under 16 ounces....
I don't even trust them under 3 #'s usually....

If your gunsmith can take a Remington trigger down to 4 ounces without adding a third lever...I would like to see that...man that is scary light for a Remington trigger...

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I should have made it clear that parts were ordered to make this possible. This was not done only with the original parts in the OEM trigger.

Well, sorry if my trigger job causes you and some others trama and I'm really sorry that it works exactly as promised. If it ever does fail, I'll let you know so you can jump with glee and feel vindicated. Hey I also shoot with a reworked Remington trigger on my rifle. The guy that built the gun sent off for a trigger kit I think it was. Anyway I remember it took 2 months for all the "parts" to come in (there's that word again, "parts"). Funny but I thought guns were made up of parts and more parts and then even more parts. Maybe only the primadonnas that laugh at other people's equipment have super guns that aren't made up of "parts".

Anyway, this was 4 years ago and that trigger is still as fine today as it was the day he changed out those "parts". Whoops, there's that word again. Can't help it. I'm not a prima donna so my guns had to be made up of "parts".

The money saved by not buying a jewel trigger was used to true and accurize the Remington action. OH MY GOD!!!! The old primadonna fart is probably bouncing off the walls with that one. Trailer Trash like me using a Remington action instead of a gold plated Hall action or something like that which has his stamp of approval on it from his lofty broach of excellence.

Anyway with the savings of not buying a jewel trigger and a custom action I was able to purchase and have chambered the best barrel I could think of and top the whole rig off with the best scope that I could think of. Oh yeah, I put the whole thing into a used benchrest stock that I painted myself with the spray paint cans. Man I can see old primadonna having heart failure now. The twenty dollar Walmart Krylon paint job is probably too much for his excellency.

And you know what really smells around here? Arrogant primadonna fools like this one that looks down their self anointed royal nose at other people and their equipment when it doesn't come up to their self-proclaimed level.

And in closing Dixie PPC, I hope you have as much success with your "parts" as I have had with my "parts", especially that trigger which is also made up of "parts". Anyone that would wish less of another shooter or their equipment is nothing more than something that...... Smells.

Nobody is, I believe is giving him a hard time.Things are posted without any backup and there are several on the forum that have built a nice rifle or three. I have been doing this for about 30years and didn't know that trigger parts were available to make a light pull, safe Remington trigger.
Now I would have been a little on your side until you posted that not buying a Jewell trigger let you have your receiver trued. I don't know about a Hall action as I don't believe Alan has made any CF one in years. Don't think I have seen any gold plated ones. What did you use for a barrel and what did your "smith" charge to machine it?
You don't need to come to a gun fight with a pin knife.

We have more than a trigger job in common as my last build was also using a Remington action. After retiring from the military in 85, I started playing around with benchrest. By 1990, I was hooked solid and had a full custom LV & HV built and went off to play the 100-200 yard BR Game. In 2000, circumstances put a halt to my shooting and everything went into storage. Up until last year I spent 12 years raising two granddaughters which took every ounce of my time. I got the girls off to college about a year ago and I'm sort of free now to start shooting again. I pulled the two PPCs out, set the loading bench up, threw some rounds together and went off and joined the local gun club to do a little shooting.

There I met 600 yard and 1000 yard people, no PPC people around like there was when I quit. As a matter of fact every weekend there is a 600 yard or 1000 yard match within 50 to 150 miles of here, sanctioned and none sanctioned. So if I'm going to play with the local crowd it's going to have to be at 600 and/or 1000 yards. I know I don't have the talent to do a 1000 yards, probably don't for 600, but anyway I decided to build a 600 yard rifle.

Not having anywhere near the funds and resources that I had back in the 80's, I decided to build the gun on a 700 action that I already had. I didn't go completely bargain basement but spent nowhere near what my two PPCs would be valued at today.

I've thrown a hundred rounds through it so far just playing and working on loads and it shows real promise. It and myself will never be world class 600 yard competitors but that wasn't the real reason for getting into this at this late date in life.

It's just going to be fun.

I'm sorry and I am known as a grouch. My Dad was retired military, my brother and cousin were also. My youngest Son retired from the Military and my Brother in Law retired from the military. I love the military, but it has nothing to do with this thread. I have a lot of Grandkids. My one Grandson was in the marines and his Daughter is my Beautiful Princess. I have 6 other Grand Kids. They have nothing to do with this thread.
Things have been posted here from a couple new members and info has been asked of you. I have not said any of you are wrong, but give us some real facts and you will be our buddies for ever.

Dixie, if you had 2 custom PPCs then I'm assuming they probably had jewel triggers in them. If you weren't going to shoot the PPCs any more, why not pull the trigger on one of them and put it in your new build if they are compatible with a 700 action? BTW, we just finished getting a son through college but we were lucky, he had a four year scholarship that just about covered everything. Now I hope he gets a well paying job so he can buy daddy some real benchrest guns or at least a couple of jewel triggers. And yes, I did have "Proper Upbringing". If my Mother had ever have caught one of us being discourteous to another or attacking someone verbally she would have put a knot on our heads. Old forgotten values.

I thought about it but decided I did not want to bastardize either one of the two PPC's. I still hope to do some of those shoots again. But like I said, I am totally happy with what this guy did to this trigger and if it holds up I don't see any need to go to any further expense or rob another gun of its trigger.
