Blue dot in 222?

Curious if anyone is using blue dot in 222. I have several 222 rifles, a ton of 50 gr bullets and a lot of blue dot. I tried a single load of 9 grains it seems to work pretty well but I'm sure there's room for improvement. I'm shooting iron sights on a Remington 40x at 200yds. No chrony so no idea what the velocity is. I have seen a lot of info with the 223 but none with the 222. Any thoughts appreciated.

Why a magnum pistol/shotgun powder instead of a rifle powder? 222 isnt as popular as it once was but is very accurate

Never shot Blue Dot in anything but 357 mag. But I ran across this long ago. Might be helpful to you. You could always scale back based on the water capacity difference of the cases. It is a MS Word file, so I can't attach it, but I could send it to you.

I've shot thousands of 221 FB and 223 rounds with BD and 40gr bullets ---Vmax.
A little interpolation between these cases would possibly suggest you might be
able to get decent results with a 222

This was a very good short to medium range PD setup----shot cool without much
cleaning.

I'd advise much caution with this fast pistol powder----things change very fast.

Unless you're willing to do a lot of testing, might be a good idea to walk away
from this one.

I weighed a lot of charges to find a safe top load----then weighed a lot of charges
to ensure my measure could be depended on not to throw heavier charges.

There was not much leeway to find an optimum tune but a SAFE load with
PD accuracy wasn't hard to find.

Hope this information will be of use to you. Hopefully somebody will pop up
and put you on a good proven load.

This post jogged my memory of a PM from you 7 years ago
I truly don’t remember if I ever got back to you with the information on blue doc that I had from a fellow named Seafire
If I did not, I really and truly apologize, although it is quite a few years late, but I can dig it up and mail it off to you. If you have a specific caliber in mind, let me know and I will see if he sent me any of the detail testing he did
If I did send it to you then that’s great if I didn’t again, my apologies and I’ll try to do better

I got it promptly from you shortly after you offered. Your post triggered me on getting it. Thank you!

I’ve tried 2400 in 222 with 40 Vmax. Took a butt ton of inter web searches but I found a few pieces of corroborating data sets and went for it. Shot fantastic, absolutely fantastic.

I have found a ton of 223 info just very little 222 data. I guess I'll just measure the case volumes, do the math and apply the % difference to the 223 data. No magic bullets.

Thanks for the input!

I'm not sure if I can find the data or not, maybe have to pull and weigh a charge, but I used to shoot 222 with Blue Dot and light bullets. 35 Vmax, 36 Starke, etc. Excellent short range round. House finches were in serious jeopardy. Ditto with a 17 Mach IV and sub-20 gr. bullets.

ETA: After re-reading the above article, I remember also loading 800X and a lot of Calhoons stuff. Still have a few of those. Good times!
