Blackhorn 209 Good GRIEF!

I was running low on the blackhorn with only about 10 shots left of it. Just went looking for some more.

NO THANK YOU at 79.00 for 8oz (Cheapest I could find) I guess it's back to triple 7 FFG for me.
I bought a jug Sunday,…. $81!…. I don’t mind that near as bad as that 8 oz BS!… in a one lb jug so you think your getting a lb!…
My Dad said 40 years ago the only way they will ever get our guns away from us was to starve us out or price components so I we can’t afford it!… guess he was right

Straight up blackpowder is ~$20/lb at Powder Valley. I understand Blackhorn is some kind of substitute, but what's is big selling point?

Black Horn 209 is marketed as a smokeless powder. Clean up with your favorite bore cleaner. No hot soapy water scrub needed. Slightly more energy by volume. Most will find backing charges down about 10% will put you back in 777 velocity range. The crud fouling ring near the breech plug is virtually eliminated. It used to cost about 50% more than 777. At that price we tolerated it. A few bucks a year towards the sport for added convince and performance. $162 dollars per pound is insulting!

During WW2 shooters had nothing because every thing was for the war effort, and rightfully so. But many shooters started making their own bullets, dies and other shooting products. Those very same companies are the ones that are gouging us today. The difference is they are no longer owned or ran by shooters like us, they are run by corporations that care nothing about shooters. The same people that say American workers are too lazy to make cars competitive with the Japanese. The Japanese have proven them wrong. The only way this can improve is to boycott them. And find someone to support that is not gouging. I am thinking the Vitavori powders are the best buy at the moment. I fell in love with the 123 grain Nosler custom competition bullets, they have more than doubled in price since this started. I don't know the answer but the problem is the leaders of shooting related industries are not shooters anymore.

You sir are not wrong!…Bruce Hodgdon, Vernon Speer, Joyce Hornaday Roy Weatherby just to mention a couple

Why is it, that when you find something that works for you, they either discontinue it or price it out of range. BH209 is great, but NOT $80.00 for 10 oz. The full bottle I have sits right next to my gold bars!!!! (I wish). I'd almost go to a crossbow, but I'm to old and they go upwards of $2000.00!!! rsbhunter

If your muzzleloader runs on BH209 and you draw an elk tag that took you 25 years to get, believe me you will pay whatever it takes to get some. It always seems to be unavailable when the season comes up. The most I saw a single bottle go for on gunbroker was ~$350 + tax and $40 shipping. Who would have thought muzzleloading was a rich mans sport.

If it was $1100 a lb I would buy it if I wanted to shoot!….im not gonna cut off my nose to spite my face!…
There are much cheaper alternatives, simply wanting to shoot is easy to accommodate. But it's your money, I could care less how you spend it. What I don't quite understand is why you are complaining about the price if you really don't care what it costs.

I have used ALL of the alternatives, including black powder.
Blackhorn 209 is just so much nicer to use than anything else. Once you're hooked, you're hooked. Get the fix, no matter what it costs.

Name another black powder substitute where you can get about 10 shots without having to clean/swab the barrel between shots.

When I run out I guess I'll have to go back to cleaning/swabbing between shots because I refuse to be extorted!

Actually Bob I never complained about the price!…. I complained about it not being a lb of powder. And then……. I said what I said because you made it sound like because I want to go hunting I enable Hodgdon to rape everyone!… I got maybe 15 years left to hunt, I’m certainly not going to let $81 stop me!… I don’t like there prices or anyone else’s prices but I’m not gonna stop living.

I think it's alliant or maybe hodgens powders that went up across the board 30% not long ago and they are fixing to go up another 10% in a couple of months I am hearing from distributors.... That's ridiculous... I have just started working on new loads especially in shotgun for skeet with different powders and my friends are finding new stuff they like at about $100 an 8lbs jug cheaper...

It's nice to have a custom shotshell load with good wads and nice shot but for just junk loads you might as well buy off the shelves... It's not worth your time or burning up components that you need in competition...
