Nosler .308 168 gn bullets?

A couple of years ago I bought a box of 1000 Nosler 168 HPBT .308 match bullets. I was shooting them from my Mod 70 in MR F-TR matches and not doing very well. I was also using LC 77 Match brass. Following some advice I got here, I simultaneously switched to Lapua Palma brass and Sierra 155 bullets and my scores improved markedly. I'm running low on the 155s and was wondering if it's worthwhile experimenting with loading the Nosler 168s in the Palma brass? I mean, I've still got 7-8 hundred of the Noslers left and it would be a shame for them to go to waste if they weren't the problem. I guess what I'm asking is if anyone has any beefs with Nosler 168s at 600 yds?

Throw a load together using Varget and see what you get. Some rifles don't like certain bullets no matter what you combine them with. Others are not pickey at all. You know you need a minimum of 0.5MOA accuracy to be competitive, and if you can't get that then don't go there. I don't know anyone who shoots F-TR Mid Range with any 168 but others may. Good luck.

Respectfully, and while others may differ, the shooters I am familiar with have never gotten good results from any of the 168 gr. bullets in the .308 Win. If we shot Palma, we used the 155 Sierra but for other pursuits, we moved up to the 175 gr. Match bullets for better results. Nowadays, some of the guys are shooting the Berger 185 gr. 'JUG' bullets with surprisingly good results. I would think for Mid-Range that the JUGs would be perfect. However, given that you have several hundred of the 168 gr. I would give them a try at the very least. Otherwise, use the classifieds and move them down the road.

I have never found Varget to be the powder of choice for any cartridge as far as accuracy and performance are concerned. That's just me:( since so many others swear by it as 'THE' powder for .308 Win. But on the other hand, I get results from Re-15, IMR-8208, and IMR-4895. Testing is the only way to really know how a bullet/powder/rifle combination is going to work. Load some up and do the testing then let us know how it turns out. Maybe post some targets if you get the opportunity.;)

Good Luck!
