Black bird down at 624 yards!

I was out shooting sage rats...and for a time there were not to many rats out but there were some black birds way out past 600 yards. Well I thought what the heck I'll see if I can get lucky. I have been shooting my 22-250 with new PacNor barrel and it has been a real tac driver. I ranged the black bird and my range finder showed 625 yards so I dialed in my dope for that range and aimed about where the feet would be...pulled the trigger...nailed him...just a wad of black feathers...couldn't believe I got him. I have been very impressed with this rifle... I shot four rounds on my target ...got excited and flubbed the last round. Oh well at least it's still perty good group to me. Thought you all might get a kick out of this story being that it was a black bird and all...LOL:rolleyes::D
I'm shooting 53 gr. v-max and RL-15 with avg. velocity of 3770fps. I will also say that the 10x50x60 sightron scope is a big help for the long range stuff too.

Yea barrel is 28 inch with brake and 12 twist. I really had the 53 v-max in mind when
before I ordered it. I put this on a savage target action then put about 15 pounds of
lead in the stock for weight. I can see all hits with scope over 20 power and at over
500 yards or more easily.

Congrats on a SUPER SHOT...53Vmax & RL15 in a 22-250 is a deadly package. What brass...primer...are you using. PacNor makes great small calibre barrels.

Thanks fellas...Normally when I'm shooting that far at small targets there more misses than hits sometimes.
especially when the dang wind is blowing:mad::p. For me it's a challenge and when everything comes together
and I'm hitting more at the longer ranges it does feel rewarding as perry42 mentioned. That day on that black bird
it was a "one shot...one kill"....LOL:D:p. I'm using CCI-200 primers and Winchester brass. When I worked up
the load using the OCW powder test it showed 36 grains being the best for my rifle. This is a max load in the books
so don't start there with your rifle. I enjoy hearing about the long shots and I know many here have made some
long ones for sure! :)

The great thing about some of my longest shots is that when I did it, I was so amazed i stopped. That way I can still think I am way cooler than I really am! A long time ago i heard that a friend is the guy who takes your gun from you right after you make one of those shots and says "hey, lets have a drink". An enemy is the guy who lets you try again....and again...and again till you are up to your butt in brass.

here's to all those long shots that make memories.

Just got a 12-twist .22-250 Savage and some 53 V-Maxes. Was gonna start with Varget but ran across this thread, so will get the RL-15 out first.
Thanks for the info!
