Bix n Andy trigger will not cock and fired when bolt closed

I have a Bix n Andy competition trigger in a prone target rifle that I use for Palma and Fullbore. It is a Remington 700 solid bottom single shot. The action is bone stock with a PTG bolt. It is chambered in 223. It has been a fantastic trigger and I like it above all the others in my other target rifles. I do not have a trigger hanger (I did not think I needed one, but, not really sure).

This trigger has been problem free for about 800 rounds. However, three weeks ago at a match I closed the bolt on a cartridge, the cocking piece slipped off the top of the trigger and fired the cartridge. Then I dry fired it several times, it felt oddly light, then would not cock. I stopped shooting, could not finish the match, and took it home.

I cleaned it per the Bullet Central instructions, re-adjusted it per the instructions and all seamed fine. Shot a 1000 yard match yesterday and it was great until the third string and it stopped working again. Would not cock. I had to stop shooting it.

Today I measured the distance from the trigger pin to the cocking piece as per the instructions on the Bullet Central video to try and determine if I had the correct top sear and per the chart on the website it should be fine. My measurements were 4.2mm, and the standard sear should be ok. I plan to shoot this rifle at Berger SWN and need to sort it out. I emailed the Bullet Central guys and no response in two weeks, but, it is the holidays. Can anyone suggest something I am missing in trying to fix this issue? Mike

emails wont do a thing with those guys, you have to call them on the phone
had trouble with a tacsport trigger, email several times =no response
one phone call, immediate satisfaction
sent the trigger in, had it back in a little over a week
my problem was using too much lubrication on the shroud threads and cocking ramp
leached down into the trigger
got to run those triggers bone dry

I had a B&A and had similar problems. Try these two things.
1. Turn the sear engagement adj. screw out, counter clockwise about 1/8 turn at a time and see if this helps. Sometimes it requires more sear engagement than the instructions recommend.

2. If the above doesn't fix the problem loosen the trigger side plate screws and retighten but only lightly snug. This cured my problem. It seems the screws were over tighten and causing the trigger to bind or not reset properly.

Good Luck

If its ran good for 800 rds you didnt get the wrong sear. You have a cleaning job in front of you. Like was said above they must be surgical clean which is a bad thing in the gun world. One tip i can offer as you get your mind right to tackle this project- take it apart in a big ziploc bag and keep the parts in a bowl inside a jethro size bowl. Sweep the floor before you begin and put rolled up dark towels in front of every bench a spring could roll under.

unfortunately, the op wont know for sure if any of our cures fix the problem unless he go's to the range and burns up a bunch of rounds
if it were me, I would use a different trigger until bullet central fixed or replaced it

Thanks guys, I will look at a couple these suggestions. Getting to a range is not too big of a deal. I appreciate all the help. Mike

If it were me id put a different trigger in there if youre going somewhere like a nationals. And id get 2 so id have a spare. Send that trigger in before you waste another match on it. The cost of a spare trigger is minimal compared to match fees

I have had problems very similar to the OP since mine was new (Tacsport 2 stage) Had it malfunction in the middle of two matches, once I got it to reset it worked fine. I know my sear to cocking piece fit is perfect. I guess I will take it apart and clean it but it's never gotten oil or grit in the trigger. I did slightly increase the sear engagement slightly more than the instructions and have not had an issue since but only 50 or so rounds since the last malfunction (plus a bunch of dry fire).
Superb trigger but I don't get a warm fuzzy in terms of reliability

Will add: as to checking the sear to cocking piece for engagement I used layout blue on the cocking piece and then you can readily see where the sear bears against the CP. A sharpie would work as well
Mine shows about 65-70% engagement sear to CP as per this test
