I shoot in the bird's general direction whenever I can. Love quail and pheasant hunting. Watching good dogs work is as good as it gets.

Thanks snert, She was a pup then and that was her first bird. Now at 8, she is still a wonderful hunting partner and understands that I am fatter, slower and older. Those hills can hurt.

Ya, sometime after back surgery I failed to notice that my legs no longer seem to move, stretch, balance like they once did...so grouse hunting has taken a backseat to ...well...riding in the back seat! I look like a dottering ol' fool out there!

Live in Northern Missouri and use to quail and pheasant hunt all the time untill the population took a big fall about 8 years ago. Had two german shortairs and put the last one to sleep about two years ago, ( that sucks bad ) !!!! I have seen more quail this spring than I have in a long time and heard several cock roosters while turkey hunting this spring. Sure would like to see them come back while I'm still young enough to walk all day.

Working with a bird dog is a real joy; had a Brittany for eight years it would retrieve anything that fell from the skies including Canada honkers. Once I retire (and stop traveling) another bird dog will be my first purchase.
