Bipod causing horizontal stringing?

How do I fix that?
I shoot a ton with a bipod and bag on a portable bench. What I have found is I must drive the rifle. Free recoil, light hold, and so on doesn't work. Lean forward at the hips to load the bipod. Pull back into the shoulder with your trigger hand. The more it kicks the more important these 2 things are. I want to try ski feet. Also the bench is small so I have to use a harris or atlas not a fancy fclass or elr bipod. A pad under the feet helps too. I learned this from snipers hide on youtube. I think the channel is shlowlight.

Its also possible none of them are you. Maybe with a larger sample thats just how it shoots. Or it was the condition.

Lots of good stuff on YouTube about bipod shooting

Watch mark and sam after work. Dude knows his shit.

Rests and bipods are two totally different types of shooting. If you’re not medically hindered, get off the bench, off the rest, and it’s all about consistency in building a position and recoil management. You’ll find out what is not working if you pay attention. A repeater helps.

Benches? Nah! Open up a world of possibilities. Be able to shoot anywhere. Besides some range with a bunch of people and all that they bring. Go prone. It’s more rewarding than touching a trigger/reading wind. Skill game :D

You have to position the bipod and rear rest aligned with the target. You can't rotate the rifle on the bipod legs to set the POA (Point of Aim). You will usually know if you do this because the muzzle will just to the left or right, not straight. I also add that having the feet on something that prevents skidding of the feet will also help.

Holy smokes, i am 40 and average, but prone is hell. I don't understand how f class does it.

Shoot bipod off a field soft footing. Load develop with the bipod you use in the field.
Even with bench rests, changing sand type can throw shots. You have to develop with what you will use.

I was only able to move the bipod about an inch because of interference from the bag rider.
I want both options, but I will likely have to pick one or the other.

I will try again tomorrow.
I am going to move the Pic rails (bipod mount) forward.
I will try the dry fire thing too.
That looks like a Savage FT/R. Am I correct? If so, do you still have the 30" barrel on it? On mine in .223, that 30" tube made it tippy; muzzle heavy. Even with my bag rider all the way out front, it was "light in the butt" aka muzzle heavy. Others have said to move the pic rail to the front, but don't discount that barrel. Mine now has a 25" @urbanrifleman barrel on it and it handles much better.

Also, some Harris bipods have spring loaded legs. If you're all the way down on them, you're on the springs. They bounce. I've had vertical strings with that. Be sure you get up at least one notch and out of the springs.

Same rifle, load, shooter, and day.

Left target off a rest, and I threw the flier.
Right target was on a bipod.

Any ideas?
IF you are shooting off a bench. Be sure to have a piece of carpeting under the bipod feet. AND clamp a 2x4 or use a sand bag to put in front of the bipod feet so you can lean into and 'preload" the bipod so it dosent jump as the bullet leaves the barrel. AND shoot from the back of the bench. Not from one of the side cut outs.
Try it, Works for me.

From your photo, I would remove the bag rider, move the Pic rail as far forward, then relocate the bag rider behind the forward Pic rail as close as possible. I think I would get better results that were closer to each other that way.

However, if it were mine, I would consider mounting a full length ARCA rail. An ARCA clamp on the bipod and ARCA clamp on the bag rider. I could then mount either any position and they are quick on and off.

As for horizontal, a soft layer between the bench top and bipod legs will help. Preload the bipod.

Definitely an F/TR.
I shot again today. It we as a much nicer day. Moving the bipod forward and utilizing the extension seems to have helped.
The 2 groups at 12oclock were on the rest. All others were bipod
The most promising group was with a 244 bushing as opposed to the 245.
I have came to the conclusion that I don't know shit bout nothing. I can back up that conclusion with evidence.
I am going to try again with more loaded with the 244 bushing.

That's better. Keep at it and "use The Force"....

There is a Zen to things like shooting, archery, casting, etc. You must be patient, sensitive, tenacious, disciplined, and open minded while learning the ropes. It takes many outings to learn to shoot in still winds, and exponentially more to learn the wind. The journey is the reward.

I have come to the same conclusion about myself! I can compete with you for the trophy. ;)

Five 6shot groups today in a nasty wind.
I excluded one shot from the 12oclock group. (clean bore)
I excluded 1 from the center because I changed my hold.

Y'alls advice was helpful.
Thank you.
