Big BROWN let me DOWN!

Yep - had the same experience plus a lot of nasty looks by the young clerk.

My solution - my gunsmith handles all my firearms related shipping. Another advantage - I don't have to be bothered tracking down the shipper to sign for the firearm when returned if I happen not to be home when they deliver the firearm.

A couple years ago my local store told me they couldn’t ship any gun parts. I told them that they certainly could and it is done all the time. When the clerk understood that I wasn’t backing down, he went to the back and got the manager. After a little discussion, she got on the phone and made a call, and once she understood more clearly and that I was a local customer, they changed their stance.

Last week a similar thing happened and when I insisted, the clerk again went to the manager, who remembered clearly and ok’ed the shipment.

My understanding is that ups insurance is more trustworthy than usps.

OK, I sort of defended UPS in my last post, this one I'm shoving them under the bus.

I just got finished with a very frustrating couple of hours trying to ship my ammo for BSWN to PHX. The box is still here.
My local UPS Customer Center isn't. It says it is, but when you go there the door is locked with a sign and an arrow pointing to the side door to the warehouse where there is an arrow and a door bell.. RING BELL FOR SERVICE.

OK

Well, they don't print any labels, none. You need to go to the UPS Store to get a label, but this is an ORM-D. Cant help you.

Go to the UPS Store (knowing this isn't going to work)

No sir, the system won't even let me print a label for a hazmat package.

Got on the phone. No, you can't print a label, you have to have an acct authorized for Guns and Ammo to print a label.

The nearest other offices are either an hour and a half west in VT or and hour and a half south almost to MA.

Next best option if I don't want to take a 3 to 4 hour drive to ship this is to call a local FFL and see if they will ship it for me.

This is awesome considering my last shipping fiasco to PHX in '15 I think.

I have printed dozens of my own ORM-D labels and then I just affix six to a box, one on each side. Then I print my own shipping label and also affix that to the box. From there I take the package to a customer center and/or hand deliver to a UPS driver. I have been doing that for years and I have never had one problem.

OK. I got to the point of printing the shipping label (I have the ORMD labels) and there had not been any place to tell them what it was.

Do you have an acct or are you just shipping it online?

my address is a UPS store. The owner and employees are always entertained by the heavy gunbarrels and reloading components I ship and receive.

This certainly has not been my experience. UPS ruled to honor a legitimate claim and it took 4 months and dozens of calls before they issued a check. If you are the receiver, you are at the mercy of the shipper to fight for claim. I was fortunate in that the gunsmith/shipper was outstanding in helping me get my claim. YMMV

I just checked and you can get ORM D labels from amazon. $8.00 for life time supply for you and all your friends.

A couple days ago I was having lunch with a good friend who's almost 20 years older than me. He was talking about how he he used to order 50lb bags of 4831 from Hodgdon in the early 60's and how it came in the mail. Man have times changed! Sometimes progress seems to be regress...

Progress is when companies and customers use the KISS
system. As soon as someone discovers its simplicity and something is happening at NO COST to anyone, thats when someone invents and hangs a charge or a tax on the process. LDS

I got a UPS account, put on the ORMD label , CALL my driver,,off it goes,,,fact of life,,you have to know a dealer or someone who will work with you, I'll work with you in
Bastrop County,TX

Simplify life - go to a UPS or FedEx depot not a store where owner, manager, clerk may set separate policies upon whim. I would guess that UPS would call shipping a firearm to a non-FFL would constitute a transfer. Faking it, by making a false declaration of content, would screw up any damage claim where shipped item would be inspected. The lady at my UPS depot likes me and always pleasantly accepts my gun (firearm related shipments) saving me a 800 or 400 mile round trip I ship either over-night or 2nd day - depending.

If your "bundle of curtain rods" was stolen from a UPS store and used against an innocent the consequences directed at you would be horrible. Don't expect a clerk to be some kind of gun related hazard authority.

I wish I had a 50 lb. keg of H4831.

Before any of you decide to go gonzo on ORM-D markings you should know that they are only useful no later than Jan 1 2021. After that you have to use the Limited Quantity label. This change has been in the regs for at least five or six yrs now, we're in the transition period. FedEx hasn't accepted ORM-D markings since 2014.

If you have a printer you can print your own, though $8 from Amazon may be cheaper than the toner for the printer.

I have been to my little ups store a few times and shipped firearm accessories without any issue. Also they new completely what I was shipping, even had them package scopes.
