I have never had this issue when dealing with the local Cabelas?

At one time they had a 3 day inspection if it was shipped. That may have changed also......

I personally liked Cabelas better prior to Bass Pro taking over.

Yup, the “trigger lock” policy was a BP thing they introduced to Cabelas when they purchased Cabelas. It is an asinine policy!!

This may not be news to a lot of you, but it was an eye opener for me. The Cabela’s in Buda, TX had a used S&W model 27-2 in 357 in stock so I drove two hours to look at the gun. To be fair, it looked as good in person as it did in pictures. It’s from the early to mid 70s.

The clerk brought it out and presented it with a lock on the trigger. I asked him to remove it and he said he couldn’t do it because of company policy. I asked him how I could check functionality with the trigger locked and he replied they check the guns out, but don’t fire them. Then I asked if I bought the gun, and it proved to have a safety or functional issue, would they refund my purchase? He said no, they were sold with no guarantees.

They wanted $1500 for the gun and I wasn’t prepared to take that gamble on a nearly 50 year old gun. They have the ultimate catch 22 going on with used guns.

To date this is by far the best deal I every found back in 2014 I went to an estate sale at Troy Texas by the time this package came up the only buyer's that were left was four women from Temple and myself my frist bid was $1500.00 and it was the only bid the model 27-7 is unfired and the 1911 is a custom built by a will know 1911 gunsmith here in texas. I will hang on to them to the end and leave them to my son forsure.

I had an unfired gun for quite a while, a number of years. I finally sold it and let some one else store it.
Made up my mind after that if it is a collectible, some one else can have my share.
Local fellow had a gunshop and had 3-400 brand new unfired in the box SW’s. He always said that it was his retirement fund. He was on vacation when a flood came. Long story short his retirement got damaged pretty bad, water was over the top of his safes. Had a large amount of desirable lever guns and single shots.

Y’all want to cry, he lost a whole pallet of primers as well, along with a large amount of powder and ammo.

I bought a 541T at a Bass Pro way back when in @1995. They didn't have one in stock, but another store did. The clerk told me that it was marked "damaged...handling" in the system and if he ordered it, I had to buy it. It was $149.

It arrived at the store with the shipping straps still intact on the box. Perfect.

The corner of the box was dinged.

I won on that bet.

A few years back coming back fro Corpus Christi I stopped at Carrols Guns Store just to look.

He had what appeared to be and unfired Model 29 44 Mag Smith, 4 inch barrel.

It had an “S” prefix in the serial number. A trace proved it to be a 1969 model.

He said it came out of an estate sale. The previous owner bought it, put it in the gun case, and never fired it. $1500.

I bought it on the spot, and have since put around 200 rounds through it, mostly Specials.

Worth every penny.

Guy inserted a mag closed the action ( not sure what you call that chambered a round) anyway pointed it at the. Guy and walked backwards towards the door. He fired a round off to let all the clerks he meant business and not unholster their hand guns. Might be, THATS why they have trigger guards.

Back in the 80's I had three S&W Model 27's in 8 3/8", 6-, and 5"-barrel lengths. These are the heavy "N" frame revolvers designed to take a steady diet of full 357 Magnum loads. The Model 27 was the first 357 magnum model produced by S&W. They were the ultimate in craftsmanship and were sold in a wooded presentation case.

Like an idiot, I traded them off when the new "L" frames were introduced. The newer "L" frames that mimic the Colt Python with the underlug are a better choice for target shooting since the underlug provides better stability of hold and dampens the recoil for follow-up shots.

But for pure hunting as a holstered revolver, the Model 27 is hard to beat. Still, I wouldn't pay $1,500 for one, even if it was unfired.

I guess I over simplify things. I used to like Cabelas, but I did not care for Bass Pro. So, when Bass Pro bought Cabelas, I quit doing business with them. I don't even go to their website much less darken their door.

We got Basspro in about 2008ish? , built a nice store as an anchor to a big mall. Then old Cabelas built a store a couple of yrs later. Both had a lot of the same stuff, but Cabelas had some better stuff. Still both operating, maybe 8-10mi apart. Oddly enough Basspro has better pricing on reloading stuff, usually. But, Cabelas Canada has their own ordering system and two whses in Cda, and the Basspro store doesn't have access to anything in those whses except Redhead stuff. So, Basspro shelves are empty unless US sends stuff to them, which they seldom do, and Cabelas has all kinds of stuff there. Go figure, I just chuckled, corporate BS. We lost a good store due to corporate mismanagement around 2018 or so, people who can't help themselves in the bathroom used to bitch about cust serv all the time, now they bitch that it's gone. Can't win.

Hey Ernest I am out in Bastrop , I have bought a lot of over priced guns from the Buda store.... I bet you can find another if you wait or look around Austin... One thing I have learned about that store is money talks , you should have asked for a manager..... None of the shotguns or rifles in that room have a lock on them... Hell last time I was there there was a fifty cal. sitting on the table right where you walk in with no trigger lock... You are buying a used gun BUT your spending $1500 on it so next time ask for a manager and explain it to him.... That's what I do because alot of those people couldn't even explain to you why it's $1500 and not $500..just a thought....

Politics has nothing to do with it. I assume a store that has a shit ton of guns for sale is pretty pro 2nd amendment and would like to sell them. It just sounds like the insurance company and liability lawyers have had their say. Besides, I like living in the area.

That is a ''Pin Barrel'' Model 27. Likely a dash-2. Made from 1968-1980. Pin barrel were discontinued 1979-1980. These also had recessed cylinders. After 1980 there were no more pinned barrels or recessed cylinders on S&W magnum revolvers. Pin barrels can be quickly noticed by the little tit where the barrel joins the frame. The pin locks the barrel to the frame. After 1980 barrels are glued.
btw-There's no such animal as an ''Unfired S&W revolver. They ALL get fired/tested before leaving the factory. Closest thing will be one where every other cylinder has been fired. Quite easily seen on nickel or stainless guns

your right it is a 27-2 my question is because it is pinned barrel dose S/W make a heaver profile barrel for that frame.

I know that feeling it's a long drive out there and prices are so high my back starts hurting as soon as I walk in... My wife bought a pistol there and was going to go put it in the trunk and come back in to buy some ammo , they said don't worry just go get what you need... I was thinking here we have a pistol and ammo walking around the store no problem but when I bought a .22 rifle they walked me to the door... Of course we both have carry permits so none of that effects the loaded ready to rock pistol that's on our hip....
