Big BROWN let me DOWN!

Went to the "Big Brown" store to ship a stock to an ffl dealer whose company name had the word "guns" in the address.
Lady said "is this a gun?" I said "no, it a wooden stock, part of a gun".
She says " can't ship guns or any part of a gun including scopes ".
What's up with that???!!!
So, off to USPS. No problem there...

Yes the UPS Stores can unfortunately set their own policies but if you go directly to a UPS customer center or UPS depot you will be fine. You can also print out a label your self and either have it picked up or hand deliver it to a driver.

The ups store is self owned and not by ups.. Next time just take it to the ups terminal and if the person at the counter gives you any problems tell them to call their boss. I have had problems at the counter and I tell them to check... I usually print my own label from my account and hand it to a driver and tell them to scan it and no head aches.. later

Same here with .22's/small arms ammo.
UpS says no 3rd party can be used has to be the hub.
I don't think a hunk of wood is included. Surprised that a scope is.

They just saved you a pile of money.

The reason that the UPS store can't touch ammo of any kind is that the freight is a HAZMAT and the people there aren't trained in accordance with 49CFR172 subpart H.

The reason that they won't touch other stuff is that the owner says so, and as noted above, that's not UPS. Same thing with FedEx/Kinkos, not trained.

I have a UPS Ship Center down the street from my job. I have everything sent there. No hassles ever! Pick it up after work.

Usps did the same thing to me with a box of Berger Bullets the other day

When I worked in the industry I had a secure mailbox at a UPS store. All my sample guns were shipped to it. Had the thing for about 3 years and one day they refused to accept a shipment. All along they knew what was coming to me there but, just like that, it was not allowed. They didn't even have the decency to tell me before hand so I could make other arrangements.
Luckily, there was a place a block away that was happy to get my business and never had an issue shipping firearms for me, company or personal.

UPS hasn't ever refused to ship a stock for me. There policy is a firearms and ammunition can't be shipped by them. Even inert or replica firearms they will not send. I've sent barrels, stocks and other parts. They simply ask if there is anything dangerous or explosive in the package. Obviously open for interpretation anything can be dangerous depending on how it's used.

Crazy. I had to send a rifle back to Ruger last month. They sent me a prepaid return label to ship it from FedEx. When they returned it to me it came shipped from UPS. While at the FedEx I bought a box and bubble wrap and they helped me pack it.

Below is part of the instruction sheet they sent me.

Part I:

Shipping Instructions:

  1. Please send us the firearm and magazines only.(DO NOT ship so-called “high capacity” magazines if you live in a magazine capacity restricted state). All other accessories can remain with you.
  2. Print the form in Part II below and complete it, initialing all items noted with an *. Be sure to place this form in the box with your firearm.
  3. Double check to confirm no live ammo is in the firearm or magazines, if included.
  4. Package the firearm in a plain box, (with no writing on it) or a UPS or Fed-Ex box.
  5. Attach the label provided to your package.
  6. Drop the package at a staffed shipping location. To locate a shipping location, visit:http://www.fedex.com/locate/index.html?locale=en _US#start.
