Big and "Little" Bucks in Georgia

Just got back from a fun and successful hunt at my camp in Georgia. Had an even 20 nice-racked bucks in range. Took a couple does out to 360 yards. Now to the bucks.

Here's a picture of my "little" one.

Took it with a Marlin 30-30 using the 160 FTX bullet and LeverRevolution powder. Had tested this combination to 300 yards. Instant kill and down at 60 for this 8 pt.

Now to the "big" one. Used the "Pawn Shop" 257 Roberts. Did a remote phone radio fishing show from my tower for an hour. Gun NOT loaded. Spotted something and signed off. Loaded the gun and PASSED this one up at 50 yards. Easy shot but I did not want an "ordinary" nice buck. 10 minutes later I passed on him again. Tough to see the horns clearly but he looked just decent. 10 minutes later he tried to cross the power line at a fast trot. I spotted that drop tine and it was "game on".

First shot was high and below the spine. Fast run and #2 hit behind the shoulder to put him down for the count. 100 gr. Nosler Ballistic Tip and I recovered the second bullet. Held together nicely.

14 point with that drop tine. Man was I happy not passing on him a third time.

I did not have a chance to even see horns in the scope... :'(

Not sure how good the shooting was. The FTX bullet from my 30-30 sure did well. Those 100 gr. Nosler BT's worked on that 14 but the range was under 100 yards. I made a poor, first shot running, then a perfect shot still running and a miss as it piled up.

Wait. You are right. GOOD SHOT!
