Bait piles are on fire dropped this one at daybreak across the river, patented neck shot that i've perfected out to 250 yards,17 hornet every yote drt, Hornady 20 grain superformance utter devastation,51 lbs a small wolf he is, look at the size of him when I drove him back on atv, note the dozens of tracks leading to the pile in the snow. I've practiced relentlessly and can hit the tiny neck area in a yote's neck easily at 250 yards. Long winter ahead for the coyotes.

I have shot two of em like that, and were I'm at a 45 pounder is huge. My old partner has one of the two hanging in his den, and it looks like a wolf pelt. I hope you're saving his pelt. jd

Great shot! I do not always have the opportunity for them to stand still. I am forced to shoot them walking, trotting, and running. Leade them and follow through, just like shooting a dove. 22/250 AI with 55's is one of my favorite coyote rifles.

In 2016, I shot a coy dog(a cross between a coyote and domestic dog) that weighed 63 lbs, and a week later, a hunting partner shot one that weighed 73 lbs. A wildlife biologist for the state was not surprised by the size.

Once they start to weigh over 50 lbs, the possibility that they're genetically infused with timber wolf increases. It has been proven in Ohio that when Lake Erie freezes over, timber wolves come across and breed with coyotes, creating what in Ohio is recognized as brush wolves. This was proven by dna testing, an easy test. Coywolves are the technical term; all offspring from these unions are able to reproduce.

I killed a big coyote some years ago. As I walked up on him, there was ‘reverse shrinkage’. Closer I got, the bigger he looked. I decided that this one needs to be weighed. An even 50 pounds. Most coyotes I’ve dropped were probably in the 25 pound range. This is down in central Texas, and that’s the only big one I can remember.

You are a coyote killing machine!

Good job!

When I used to trap, I'd knock em in the head with a bat, and hang them upside down in a bush for a bit (bleed out the nose and ears instead of on the pelt) Usully they are pretty docile, and I could get a good angle and take the swing.
One morning I drove up on a set, and had a nice one - grabbed my bat, and walked up and HOLY CRAP!! This one was crazy aggressive - would back up against the chain and when I'd get close would lunge at me. I went to plan B and fetched the 22, and shot it from a few yards.
The coyote was a female, and absolutely chunky and muscular. She didn't have the tall lanky build of a male, but I'd bet she weighed well in the forties. Beautiful pelt, and I hung her on the wall till prices went too high to keep her. jd
