Better than One Shot case lube

But the alcohol and lanolin mix works better. Here's how its made:
Davin suggests a 10:1 ratio. When I first started using BootLeg case lube, the recipe I watched called for 6:1 ratio. I used that for several years. However, I found that if I sprayed the cases heavier than usual, I could get a slight accumulation in the die and some very small dimples on the shoulder (but also realize I spray the neck and shoulders when I spray the body - I know a no-no). So I switched to a 12:1 ratio, and that never happens now. Probably no difference a 10:1 and 12:1 ration.

I also violate another unwritten rule. When I am going to use the die expander, I lay the cases out facing me, and spray them so some of the spray goes into the case mouth. I also use a carbide expander. It just makes that portion of the sizing process so smooth. They all get tossed into a vibratory tumbler with fine corn cob to remove all the lube. Not much to remove with the 12:1 ratio. 30 minutes and everything is clean.

And yes, I go directly from spraying to sizing normally. No harm at all sizing with the alcohol on the surface. I do use Iso Heet, and the lanolin works as well with it present as when it has evaporated.

I've been using the Hornady One Shot on everything, from 6mm to .338 and haven't had a problem. Leaves very little residue after it dries (a minute or two). I fill a 100 round case block with brass, take it outside, lightly spray all four sides making sure to get some in the case mouth and wait a minute or two. Good stuff if you follow the simple directions.

And because One Shot dries without wet residue, does not require it to be cleaned off.

For those that don't like to mix their own, Dillon Case Lubricant is awesome to say the least!

I wash my cases in Coleman lantern fuel, and I keep re using the fuel, time after time using a large funnel with a paper towel folded as a filter. I dump the cases on a Beach Towel(long and wide), then grab each end of the towel. Then I rock the cases back and forth in the towel, and it is amazing how clean they become. I just let them sit in the Sun on the towel, or lay the towel in the garage floor till the fluid evaporates.

My homemade mix is:

1 oz of Lanolin to 1 Bottle of HEAT. I put some old bullets or ball bearings in the bottle to help for a quicker mix when shaking. I use a 18"x24" commercial cookie sheet, just dump the cases out and spray, roll them around, spray again.....DONE!

Good stuff thanx.

I'll keep an eye out for shoulder dimples, and adjust ratio accordingly. I'm guessing the rationale for waiting 5 minutes is so the alcohol evaporates and ya don't get dimples. I didn't see any, so.... I'll keep monitoring it.

I also try to get some overspray into the case mouth and use an expander- in all my guns, even bolt guns. I see no reason not to. But then, I'm not a pure BR shooter, so....

My issue with the homemade spray, I haven't found a spray bottle that will function until the batch is gone. The heat must be hard on the pump. And I find myself working on 15-20 cases, so the one shot is easy to grab first. I do clean and spray sizing die with one shot before spraying cases and sizing.
