Best way to remove primer crimp??

With the Hornady cutter, it bottoms out in the pocket. It's self-limiting. Other methods might allow for over-cutting, but the Hornady is solid.

I ruined way more brass by swaging. I probably could have mastered it by feel, but didn't have the patience.

I had more swaged brass cause priming issues on the progressive than anything else.

And the RCBS stops on the case head so you physically can't go into the primer pocket like I posted earlier.

I bought a crocogator based on what I read in this thread. I don't really have a problem with it, but I can't say I'm impressed either. I've swaged thousands with the Dillon and will probably stay with it as I never had a problem as long as I paid attention to what I was doing. YMMV

Interesting comment of RCBS swage

die being terrible. Been using one for 20 years with no problems. I guess it is all in one's mind. For just a case here and there, then I use the small hand reamer ( sr or lr) from them also.
I use one as well
Works well enough I haven’t replaced it.

I‘m bringing this thread back up because I have been using the RCBS swag tool that goes in the press quite a bit lately. I found the best way to find out how much crimp to push out is best determined by using the Ballistic Tool primer gauge. I just keep adjusting the die down until the go end of the gauge will slip into the primer pocket, this will not take as much of movement of the crimp as one’s eye would think.

I chuck a Lyman primer crimp bit into a cordless and with grippy gloves I hold the brass and let the drill do the rest. Takes me 2 to 3 seconds (once in a while 4 seconds ) per case.

Easy peasy cheap and easy.
Did 100 last night in no time. Some primer pocket crimp removal bits work better than others,.. the trick is to chuck them in a cordless and use a glove with grippy rubber to avoid blisters !
