Best spotting scope?

What is the hot set up for a spotting scope.Is there such a thing as seeing 6mm holes at 500yrds? What do you see most on the firing line?

You probably should have posted this in another forum, but I'll answer it here.
First yes and no to your bullet hole question at 500 yards. You are at the mercy of the enviromental conditions of the day, but the premium scopes definately give you an edge. Go to the article archives and read my spotting scope report.
What do you see most of on the firing line? You can see them all really. From the top end Zeiss, Sworoski, Pentax,Leica etc. down to Bushnell's and everything in between. Your best bet is between relays ask those guys if you can take a peek through their scopes and compare for yourself. You'll soon make up your mid which ones you like the best.
You'll also find out which tripod and head that you favor since the best scope in the world falls short if mounted on a cheap spindly tripod.
