BEST Solvent to remove Imperal Sizing Wax & PMA Mandrel Lube

wang.

I spray the cases to cover them with Shout, stir, add water to cover and a couple of drops of Dawn, and stir again. Rinse in water three times to remove the cleaners.

You tumble in pins after sizing? Thats out of order... 1. Why the heck would you do that snd mess up your neck tensions, 2. You would then be putting dirty brass through your dies if you size before tumbling, 3. Heck no techno.

Shellite is what i use too. Here in NZ it’s now called X55. Works great on anything greasy. I use when rebuilding engines and auto trans as it dries without leaving any residue.

I just use a paper towel but it does require wiping each one individually. I normally only size in 20 to 40 round rifle increments so it's not a big deal to use a paper towel. Don't like the idea of getting solvent on my bare hands.
THIS... And my hands..

I used to wipe them with a paper towel, but I have a goal to reduce the number of times I need handle individual cases. I just dump them in the tumbler with pins, dawn, hot water and Lemi-shine, 15 minutes, a quick rub in a towel and then in the sun for a dry.

I use Coleman or other type of lantern fuel.

Let the cases soak for a few minutes, using a large funnel, paper towel as a filter, just pour the fuel back in the can for later use.

Let the cases dry on a towel, out in the Sun preferably if you can.

I think I'm going to try some hot water and dawn agitate a bit then soak the rinse and dry. I hate the idea of buying a tumbler when I only need it for extremely small batches of brass

Simple Green Industrial and hot water in a plastic coffee container, put the lid on and shake it up and let em soak for a few min, rinse a few times with hot water, drain, and dump 'em out on a old clean towel. Dry in oven at 200 for 15-20 min. I just do this in my stainless kitchen sink, helps clean crud out of the drain pipes too. You can smoke as big of a cigar as you can get in your mouth, if you want to, nothing will blow up.

I use Permatex Super lube for all my case sizing and put my cases in a plastic bottle with some MEK solvent and shake them around for a minute or two. Then just dump them out on a towel to dry.

What SOLVENT have you used to remove Imperial Sizing Wax and PMA Mandrel Lube from your neck turned cases?

Thanks
wang

There's a way that doesn't require solvent. Imperial is real good for some things. For neckturning there's better. Lee Lube, it's white stuff that comes in tube like toothpaste. Squeeze a couple inches of lee lube into a plastic bullet box, then add some water and stir it. Microwave it for maybe 5-10 seconds. You want the consistency about like heavy cream. Apply it to the mandrel with a q-tip. I use Sinclair turner with double ended mandrel, back end chucked into an electric drill. Every few rounds lube the mandrel, doesn't take much. I hold the case in thing my riflebuilder at the time used to make, a shellholder on a threaded platform with larger knurled base. Designed to hold on a drill press table, surely someone must make one similar. With this holder and an electric drill you can really crank out the cases. Get going and turn about 120 / hour, easily maintain 100 / hour.. Doesn't take all that long to turn a whole bunch of cases. Nice thing about LEE lube is that it's water soluble, non greasy. A rag or paper towel and it's gone. Lube cases before sizing and never have to wipe them. Lube bullets with it and cuts down on fouling. Great stuff.
