best scope for the $

I'm shooting 600 and in, I have the weaver t36 now and want to upgrade. I was wondering. What you guys thought the best scope is for around $5-600 range. I like the weaver but I hate the turrets on it. I also would think having a vari x scope would be nice. I would like to be able to go from 200 yards to 600 and not have to worry if my turret marks are right. Let me know what you guys think.

In My opinion you aren't goning to find any better scope than you have in the price range you are talking about. Now if you want to get into the $1200.00 -$1500.00 range you can buy a 12X42 X 56mm BR or a lower powered NSX Nightforce and life will be a lot better,

Josh,

I know what you mean about the Weaver turrets. It is a very good scope and great value for money, and there is a big price gap between the fixed power one-inch tube models like this and good 30mm tube variables. If you're absolutely limited to $500-600, I'd stick with what you've got. If you can stretch to $835-850, I'd go go for a Sightron Series III 8-32X56 LR, a superb 30mm body, side-focus target scope. I use an early example from 100 to 1,100yd in F-TR and am really delighted with it.

You don't say what you're shooting at of course, but since you use a T36, I assume it's paper and a fine crosshairs / central dot design like the Sightron will meet your needs.

Ill be shooting paper and the once in a while yotes, maybe even a P-dog next year. Ive been looking at the Sightrons and have looked through a 50x and love it. But I cant afford it now. What do you think of shooting with a Leupold in the 20's power? 20x or 25x?

I have 2 Weaver 36's and they are great target scopes. However, if you wanna hunt yotes or other vermin, I highly recommend a variable power scope. The focal plane of a fixed is just too narrow. I have a Leupold Vari-X III 8.5-20X that works quite well, sells for around $750.

Stay with the Weaver glass in one of their Super Slams. Pull up target type knobs and SF on higher powered ones. Think there is a $50 rebate on some of them. Take a look at www.natchezss.com selection....some reduced prices on models and with rebate, really a good buy on them.

A nice used Leupold in the $675-$750 price range should get you an 8.5-25-50mm or maybe even find a premier boosted one in the $800-$950 range.....

Keep your eye balls on GunBroker and ebay, set up email notification, I got an 8.5-25x50 for $538....he had spelled Leupold wrong, watch for that also!

I might just keep my t36 till I save up enough to get my dream scope, Nightforce NXS 42x or may be a Benchrest model.

You can find a used LEUPOLD in excellent condition in your price range. The gentleman who is probably the best benchrest shooter in the sport today, Mr. Gene Buckys, uses a LEUPOLD. Sam Hall, until just recently, used only LEUPOLD scopes. He has moved to the March scope to give it a "shot". Both gentleman can afford to use anything available.
