Best Lightweight Scope

Trying to make weight. Need to be below 20 ounces for scope and rings. What is the best scope available meeting that? Assume has to be a fixed power. T36 Weaver is 17 ounces as is the Sightron II 36. Nightforce Competition 40 would make it, but its MSRP is about $1,800. All three Leupolds are 20.4 without rings.

Sounds like you may need to cut weight on the rifle somewhere. 20 oz for scope AND rings is gonma be very tough. Most rings are gonna eat up at least 4 oz+ so that doesn't leave you with much for a high powered optic.

How long is your barrel? might take a couple inches off.
Perhaps cut some weight by drilling out the rear of the stock so long as you don't upset the balance of the rifle.
If using a steel scope base, maybe go to aluminum.
Flute your bolt and hollow out your bolt handle.
Etc...

This is a real compromise rifle for me as it is my first real venture into Short Range BR. Those first four scopes, T36, T36XR, SII and NF 40 all will make the weight with Aluminum rings.

The rifle has a 3 pound weight in the stock. So with one of those scopes and the weight, I just make Heavy Varmint Class and with the weight out, just make Light Varmint and with the 6PPC barrel and 30BR barrel can shoot group and score.

Just really wondering if I need to layout for the Night Force at the high end as compared to the Sightron II 36 or the Weavers.

Also heard that the older Leupold 36X are 17 ounce scopes also, but no longer made.

Thanks, Bob

I started with the weaver, it's good but I moved to nf and there is no comparison. Buy once cry once has never been more true for me.
