Best Scope for 100-300 Benchrest on a 6ppc?

Dusty, Bart & Co -
I have a Valdada 36X that I picked up from Bart (he actually took it off of his rifle for me!). My only nit to pick is the ocular lens/ bell. Mine is the older/ larger/ heavier one. It barely clears my Panda bolt handle (in high Burris rings with the plastic insert things - name escapes me), and I seem to get a lot of reflection in the ocular lens. Unless shaded, I can get distracted by things around and behind me. Have you guys noticed this/ do you see it with the newer design? Otherwise, it's a superb tool for short range BR, IMO. Solid clicks, solid POA hold, very nice glass, good reticle...

Could just be me but I’ve not had that trouble with any scope.

The bell on the back and panda bolt handles is why we have the new smaller oculars!

I have shot the Valdada 36x for ten years and it holds point of aim and has positive repeatable clicks, plus it has the great Schott glass. I have tested many scopes during the 10 year period and some that come to mind that compare favorably to the Valdada are the Kahles 10X-50X MOAk in that it holds POA as well as the Valdada. The 15-55X Nightforce Competition that I tested had the clearest image of any scope that I have tested and it was the only one with which these old eyes could see 6mm bullet holes at 600 yards (on a good day). Both the Sightron 10X-50X and the Vortex Golden Eagle represent a good value and are great scopes. Another favorite of mine was the fixed 42X Nightforce where weight was a problem. There are many great scopes available today but for the requirements of the OP, I don't think that one can do better than the Valdada 36X. Good shooting....Jamesthumbnail6UQHCDAW.jpg

And here I expected top praise to go to the higher power 45x-52x scopes. Very informative posts.

If weight is an issue and you wanted more power the March 48 HM is a shooter and it is bright and 60 min. of movement and it holds point of aim ...... jim

That much power is not really needed and a variable is too heavy. The leupold 35,40,45x comp models have comparable decent glass but the valdada is better and holds poa. The march is dark and costs a lot more and some hold poa. I havent tested the fixed nf myself but im sure its a good scope. I wish i could make weight with a nf comp

Dusty, the March 48 HM is a totally different scope and is now all they offer in a fixed power and it is bright and it puts the 40 and 50 March fixed power, 15-55 NF and the 10-60 March to shame for brightness, 60 min. of elevation good eye relief and it isn't fussy and it holds POA...... jim

It makes you wonder why Nightforce would discontinue such a well received scope after a short time on the market. I see a lot of them at matches.

Yep. That sucks. With a 10.5 LB weight limit there aren't that many scopes to choose from for the SR group shooter.
