Best round for 450 accuracy?

mattri

6BR is the way to go. The 6.5 x 47 a been around for few year, and has not taken over by any means. The BR cost less and shoot.

Interesting #s from the 6mm Rem, a little more case capacity than the .243 and some say much better barrel life.

1 in 8 twist seems to be the popular choice around my neck of the woods. Wondering why someone suggested 1 in 9? What bullet would you recommend?

Max yardage is 450 or so. Thanks!

I would look at the Dasher, fire forming is not that bad and the cases last for ever. They hammer at short range like 5-600 and they win a lot at 1K .600 groups at 500 are not hard to get and 2-3" at 1K are very doable also. The extra speed of the Dasher does help and at 100 yds. expect groups in the low ones.......jim

The range is at the 3 Mile Lake site, contact the High Lakes Alliance for more information. The actual site is just north of hwy 34, in between Creston and Afton.

The 6mm Rem looks as though it would deliver better velocity than the 6br but without the high pressure/short barrel life of the .243, seems like a winning combo, no?

450-500 6br it is the most accurate cartridge next to a 6ppc and that is the reason they build dashers, brx's etc,etc off of that cartridge, check into all of the 600-1000 yrd shooting circles and you will see that the 6br and anything built off of that cartridge dimension is dominating the winners circle.A great shooting 6br is rarely beaten by a good shooting 6ppc at any distance.Have owned most of the calibers you suggested and none of them will compete with a real good shooting 6br.

6br is an outstanding caliber at mid range and my three have been very easy to tune, easy to load , very very mild recoil, good barrel life, lapua brass lasts and lasts in this caliber, whats not to like? That being said i am in the process of building a 6.5x47 lapua so time and testing will tell.. But to add to the replys you already have, you wont be disappointed with a 6br at mid range.

I have been where you are going, don't go there. I have done the 6mm Rem, 243, 6mmAI, 22-250, 22=250AI. They are good rounds, but the speed does not make up for accuracy. The brass is the down fall of the 6mm Rem, it is no where as good as the 6BR Lapua. Shooting long range is just getting you drop chart. I have done all the speedster. I have Stiller Diamondback action with 3 6BR barrels 12, 10 and 8 tw. The 12 tw shoots a 70 Blitzkings at 3500 f/s I have 0ne shoot kills past 600 yds. and many between 500 and 600. I shot the 10 tw this year shooting the 87 gr Vmax around 3200 f/s, it did great this year, first kill was at 500 yds.

If you want more speed than the 6BR, look at the Dasher or the 6BRX. I shoot the 6BRX for long range benchrest. I have set 3 IBS records, one was the LG small group in 2007' 0.749". Sam Hall and his dasher took it down into the 0.6" range last year. The key to the 6BR accuracy is the Lapua brass, it is the best made. That is why it shoots so well.
