Best Primer Pocket Cleaner?

I use a carbide uniformer, set to clean and not cut my Lapua .220 Russian/6mmPPC brass. A friend was nice enough to make a very comfortable handle for it.

I used the RCBS steel brushes for a few seasons, but eventually I would get a few bent or broken bristles and the tool didn't work as well. Switched to the Crocogator, which will certainly outlive me. Cleans good enough for me. I've used some of the more expensive pocket uniforming tools with cutting blades. They make quick work of carbon, but I don't want the possibility of shaving brass.

.+1 on reaming the pocket. Don't forget about the flash hole either.

PS; primer pockets don't have to be perfectly clean but my favorite way to clean them is to use a pocket uniforming tool in a handheld drill takes about 2 seconds and has them sparkling.

I advise people to think carefully before reaming flash holes, especially on PPC and 6mmBR brass. Most of the flash hole reamer tools we have used cut over-size, and it is is difficult (with the tools that come from the inside) to make the chamfer absolutely uniform on every case. As long as you ensure there are no flakes or obstructions, you may be better off leaving the flash holes alone.

Reading the above, I would also caution people who may want to recut their primer pockets. This probably is not necessary at all, and there are risks when using a drill, even with tools that have a stop.

I too use the RCBS wire brush and chuck it into my DeWalt cordless drill. To minimize bending wires in the brush (if you remove a bent one more will fall out), stop the drill then insert into primer pocket. O.K. to pull out while still running. The DeWalt stops "right now" when the trigger is depressed, so doesn't take much, if any longer really. Whichever method or tool - go with power and save yourself Carpal Tunnel agony after 40 years of doing it by hand! A brush costs a few bucks and will clean several thousand pockets before replacing.

Sounds like it could be one of the old Whitetail primer pocket uniformers in carbide. I had a pair of them and lost the small one. They are precise enough that one turn and the pocket is cleaned, not recut or deformed. Doesnt stick or drag.
