Best Powders for the .22 PPC

After reading about the results you guys have had with 748 I thought I'd try some BLC-2 I had. Glad I did and thanks for the tip. It was cold and windy with 6" of snow on the ground but still impressed. All groups were with Norma brass, Hornady 55gr SX and Fed 205M.2B586533-3217-4B86-AD3B-A21AF40B3DC6.jpeg

I tried some H4198 last nite. I thought this powder was a little fast for the 22ppc but wow, looks like a good start. Has anyone else tried this powder? Al?
Thanks, Aaron

Kudos to you Al - for using less than actual bullet dia when calculating your group size.
Thanks. :)

Honest and hard Benchrest (with a capital B ;) ) practices are hard to shake. Isn't it amazing how many don't get this simple concept or connect the dots? ;)

Good shootin'. -Al

If you want to see something spectacular, try the 55g lead tip blitz on coyotes! Very humane kills!

3550 fps out of the 22 ppc with the 55's is easy, and extremely accurate, AA2230 and H335 is what I used when the WC 844 ran out. H4895 will work in spades but you leave some speed laying on the table.

I've got some 2230 headed my way and some 55gr Sierras in the cabinet. Will try it out.

Thanks, Aaron

Factory class SR/VHA rifle for me is a Sako 22ppc L461 (A1). Barts 52gr, full Norma case of N135 (about 29.2gr), regular Fed primers jumped a loooong way gets me to 3500. Unless the wind is howling it’s very accurate for group or score.

Good thread, gonna start loading for a Sako 22PPC, sporter, repeater today. Its windy so I won’t get to shoot until the weather calms. I have Sako brass, gonna start with H322, H335, N135, N133 and 8208. This will be a varmint gun, .5 moa, 3500+, 52 grainish bullets is the goal. When I reach that I’m done. I have this rifle’s twin in a 6PPC which is scary accurate, hopefully this one is too.22 PPC on the bottom.

I have a Wichita Classic varminter in .22 PPC (pic below). I've had it for some time and have tried Varget, N133, N135, H4895, and W748 with various 52- and 55-gr. bullets. Accuracy has been acceptable, I think--giving average 5-shot, 100-yard group sizes in the .4's with the best loads. So far, the best powder has been W748. This is a fairly light rifle with a barrel that tapers to a muzzle diameter of about .58". It has a Canjar trigger that is set to about 8 oz.

I'm planning to get it out again in the spring for some more shooting. Have I exhausted the best powders for the .22 PPC, or are there some that might tighten up the groups a little?

I shoot Competitively at 100 yds. and 200 yds. and my rifle likes H-332 Best,It may be worth a try.
Both 133 & h322 were always what I ended up shooting in the 22 ppc.with the nod going to H322 this with my 52 grain Target bullets.

between the 6 and the 22 ppc repeaters, which one shoots a little better?
I don’t know yet, I haven’t played around with the 22PPC. If it shoots better than than the 6PPC I’ll be beyond please, the 6PPC shoots just about everything I feed it better than .5 moa. Keep in mind that these are sporter barrels and I don’t try to get into groups that are consistently in the 2s or 3s ir even better. I don’t shoot competition.

those are special rifles. I had the target model in 6ppc. sold it, I would like to find the 22ppc heavy barrel. NICE

I would try N 133 and then N 133 and N133 one of those will work for sure start at 25.6 and work up to 26.8 with the bullet just touching the lands

I'm using IMR 8208XBR in my hunting 22PPC rifle with 53grn V-Max bullets and Norma brass with good results.
