Best powder trickler

I currently have a RCBS trickler and it's just ok imo. Is there anything made with a heavier base and maybe the stem mounted in quality bearings to smooth it out some. The plastic retaining sleeve moves too easily for me on the RCBS trickler. I would like one that when empty you could spin the stem and it would keep on spinning for a while.

I share your satisfaction with the basic RCBS Trickler. Here is my RCBS Trickler set-up with my Denver Instrument APX-153 that I have been using since about the mid-1990's. I also have an electric trickler, but I find it much too slow in comparison. Not long after getting my DI, I realized that I needed something to stop the disruptions caused by air-flow across the pan scale. So, I constructed the wooden surround as you see, and added a cabinet door knob on the right side in order to stabilize the trickler when situated on the surround.

Note that my powder loading set-up includes the el cheap-o Lee Powder Thrower! Throwing accuracy is very limited; yet, out of a 100-round loading block campaign, I generally tend to average 5-6 charge weights dead on, and generally exceptionaly close other times. Nevertheless, there can be a wide charge error that can run 5 to 8 grains LOWER (I set so as to most never exceed the charge) than my target load. Over time, I have become proficient enough that when I notice the weight differential...with right hand thumb and first finger resting on the trickler rim for stability, and middle finger on the turning knob...I can immediately turn-burst up to a 5-grain dump into the pan, when alls going well. And, lesser dumps, and on down to the single kernel. But I do resort to the tweezers on occasion for that single added kernel, or to extract that 1 kernel overage from the pan.

Take a look at a used Lyman or AMT Autoscale.
It has 2 power tricklers and an Ohaus beam scale. It will weigh your powder charge to .1 grain with one push of a button.
That includes coarse extruded powders too.

I have 2 of these if anyone is interested. One in the brown like above and the other is the Lyman orange after Lyman bought AMT out.

If you are looking for a manual trickler with bearings and some weight to it look at the Hornandy, this thing weighs 3-4 pounds, there is no way you will knock it over. It is height adjustable, has a big hopper and is 2 speed. The upper nob dispenses powder real fast and the lower nob trickles slow. The base and body are cast iron, you will never tip it over unless you purposely try too. It works great to take to the range to work up loads because you can dump the whole charge with the 2 speed feature. This link is just for the photo, the trickler sold already. http://forum.accurateshooter.com/threads/hornady-quick-trickle.4001128/#post-37729629
