Best powder for 140's in 6.5x55?

Hi Guy's,
I want to put together a super accurate & very consistent load for my Blaser R93 in 6.5x55 around a 140gr Amax projectile. Load will be used primarily for mid - long range varminting & steel gong shoots. Question is what is the powder of choice for 140's in the standard sporter length barrel? Was contemplating VN560 (temp sensitive?), VN165, H4350 or H4831SC. Suggestions?

Viht N165 is an excellent choice for 140s in this cartridge. N160 is usable too. I've not tried N560 which I'm pretty sure will work and provide high MVs, but prefer straightforward single-based powders when they suit.

Most powders in that burning rate bracket will perform well, so Accurate 3100, IMR and H4831, Alliant Re22 (high-energy). The 4350s will work but are a little fast burning for 140s and charges will run at less than a full case levels.

Thanks for the advise everyone. You cant get Norma powders here in NZ but I just happen to have N165, IMR7828SSC, H4831, H4350 on the shelf I guess I'll just pick one & start testing. It would appear that any reasonably slow burning powder should shoot well in the swede.

I have burnt many pounds of RL-22 in my Swedes, both moderate loads in the military rifles and heavy loads in a modern action target rifle. I used 4831SC as well, but didn't get the velocity the RL-22 gives me.

Here in Norway we use 6,5x55 extensivly and powder/bullet combinations have been tested very thorough.

For high vel loads with 140gr bullet = MRP/Re22 is the best powder. You'll get a tiny little more with Vitha N560, >30f/s. Most guys are running 2800-2860 with stout loads of MRP/Re22. 47,5-48,5gr.

Can't give you the velocity of my reloads with Ramshot's Magnum powder, but accuracy wise, does well for me with 140 gr bullets in my 6.5x55 rifles.

I run N560 in my Blaser 6.5x55 match barrel and with 140 Bergers or Accubond I get 2820 fps with an es of 7fps.

Temp sensitive? At 500 yards as the day progresses I will usually come down 1 click the most ever was two clicks. I live in Texas, it gets hot here. I would consider it a non-factor. Now that being said i don't leave my ammo or gun in the sun unnecessarily.

43.5 grains of N560 goes well with 140 SST's in my .260Rem. Shot this group 2 days ago prior to annual hunting trip.

Mike.
