Best neck turning tool

What have you guys found to be the best neck turning tool for the money? not looking to spend a fortune, but also don't want to buy it twice!! K&M & sinclair are the only ones I have really looked at so far.

I have used the K&M and the Hart. Heat is the only negative I found with the K&M. I found that neck wall thickness can vary a bit as the tool heats up. Joel Pendergraf makes a big aluminum tool holder shaped like a hockey puck that absorbs most of the heat but it is worth running the tool under cold water every 10 cases or so. I believe that K&M now offers something similar, maybe called "ergonomic". I really like the K&M carbide mandrels with the donut cutter. I wish Hart had something like that. With the Hart, I use an inside neck reamer to clean out the donuts before I turn the necks. I also like the cutter on the Hart better. It seems much more substantial to me and I find the Hard easier to adjust. I can't say that brass turned with either one shoots better and I believe that you can get great results with either tool.

Without a doubt, the K&M. I own FOUR. I set them up for a specific operation and don't have to touch them again. Because of the price I can do that and not have a fortune invested.

I have the K&M and it is great. Haven't used any others, but it is easy enough for the beginner and good enough for the experienced reloader.

I turned my necks without the use of the "ergonomic" holder and found the K&M cutter a little small but not uncomfortable, I have since bough the holder but at this time have not yet used it. As stated above, the carbide "doughnut" cutter is is a plus.

I have been useing a Marquart neck turner, cant find them anymore unless they are used. I use K&M pilots for turner because Marquart is no longer around. The tool itself is very smooth.

I have large hands so these fit the bill and made turning much easier. I have two of them: http://riflemansjournal.blogspot.com/2010/07/good-stuff-pendergraft-holder-for-k.html

Roger @ K&M told me he made three of his initially, a small, medium, and large and then decided he'd offer just the medium, I presume to hold down inventory.

+1 on the 21st century system... EASY setup and repeatability. call and talk to John or his daughter if you have questions. also he has cutters that are angled properly to avoid turning shoulders when you desire to only turn necks. that is to say they are case(caliber) specific. GREAT kit to include expander die, mandrel, turner, turning madrel, and shell holder system. i take LC .308 down to .260 and the brass is sooo thick. johns tools made it so much easier. i will say i think that the K&M has the the best "shell holding" system when you intend to use a hand drill or other power source. OBTW John used to own a company contracted to do some work for Sinclair. His stuff is TOP Notch and he is improving things all the time, give him some feedback and he will probably take your ideas to heart. Buy with confidence!!! my .02
cheers,

John listens, and then produces. He's the only manufacturer I know, who does that.

He and I worked on an idea I had for a funnel.

Here's the final product: http://www.21stcenturyshooting.com/Powder_Funnel.php

thanks for all the answers and suggestions. I really liked the article by german salazar. I checked out the website for 21st century. haven't heard of them until today. looks like the kit would be just about perfect. I used to have a sinclair neck turner, but have somehow lost it in moving last year. I did manage to find the K&M case holder thou. thanks again for all the help.

+ 1 on the 21st century, don't overlook the NT-4000 sinclair either, very nice tool, it is larger than the K&M so no adapter needed and the cutter is designed to cut just the neck or up the shoulder if wanted, and I want
I don't like the little cutter on the K&M and the two I own won't do a good job of making it past the neck shoulder junction. Both the K&M and the Sinclair aren't as easy and precise to adjust as the 21st century. I won't be buying anymore K&M or sinclairs now that I have used the 21st century though and John is very helpful and easy to deal with, you can email him several times with stupid questions like I did and he patiently answers them until you understand what he is telling you. You know now come to think of it navyrad8r mentioned John used to work @ sinclair and that makes sense, as his tool is a mixture of both the K&M and the NT-4000 Sinclair, it looks to me he took the best quality's of both tools and added a little splash of his own, whatever he did its a great tool.

I'm really not as good at self-promotion as John, but I submit the following:

I started neck turning with Sinclair's tools, just last year upgraded to K&M.

I just noticed the add on 6mmBR's home page for the one mentioned in the post before mine.

Interesting that this product moves the mandrel rather than the cutter for adjustments....

Anybody here buy one they can tell us about?

navalradiator.... what did you fly???????

i own a sinclare and it works, but,i have checked out the pma tool from stem to stern because of the design feature of the moving the mandrel instead of the cutter.....
it will be my next purchase next month for sure.....terrific idea.....

Hi Guys, Neck turning tools are shipping today!
OH! By the way, I have never been employed by Sinclairs
or Sinclair International. Sinclair sub-contracted most of their reloading componets to a company I once owned.
