Best Les Baer 1911 for accuracy

The way i see it, and i have been able to shoot a 1911 very well over the years, is that if you have to spend say $1000 extra to go from a 3/4” to a 1/2” 1911, you ought to see if you can even shoot 1/2” with one. If you cant match what it will do off a ransom rest then save the extra money and put on ammo. You can always upgrade later, because you know you cant have just one

Les Baer 1.5" grp gun. Mine was $2100 and my rifle smith just got one after seeing what mine would do. Buds has them from time to time. Thats where we got ours. I got a 1" five shot group at 50yds off Ransom rest with FGMM 230gr ammo.

I had one too, I sucked, bad. Buying a 1.5" pistol guarantee is a far cry from buying a rifle with a 1/4" guarantee.

Question for one and all-
Of all the 1911 .45's out there, I hear a lot about Les Baer being the most accurate, although I'm sure there are others as good (possibly better). I've saved a bunch of money, and plan to get a Les Baer 1911, but there are quite a few different models.

Anyone have a belief that one is better than another for accuracy at 50 yards?

I have a LB Premier II with 3" accuracy.( not a 1.5 in). Pretty accurate, also had a LB Bullseye 2", very accurate but found a slightly older S&W Performance Center Doug Koenig that is at least as accurate, if not slightly better.(this DK does not have the slide cuts you may see on new ones now). I was totally surprised. Also the Colt Gold cup trophy, although nowhere near as tight as LB, shoots very accurately. You can buy a Basic Limited match Rock River for 2k. You don't have to spend 4k on a Nighthawk!

I have 7 1911s that include several Les Baers, and a Wilson, but the most accurate 1911 is an entry level Springer that I bought from a friend who was not happy with how it shot. I shot it at the range and immediately offered him $200 more than what he paid. Sometimes all the tolerances fall in place and a plain Jane off the shelf 1911 will show them all up.

I have a Premier II and love it. I would recommend the 1 1/2 inch guaranty. Mine is not but still shoots 3 inches at 50 yards.

You may want.to consider getting it in 9 mm. I prefer 1911s in 9mm I have a 45, 40 and 9mm. I have 3 in 9mm. I have had two 38 supers and don't really care for them. Sold them.

the loudest most unpleasant noise in my life was being a few feet away from a guy shooting a 38 super (indoors), followed closely by shooting ten tables down from a 7mm mag.

May not be the best choice for a Marksman but would be for an Expert....I'm thinking that their different models are for different sighting methods and that they all are accurate....should be easy to discern from their advertisements of each model which is most closely fitted for accuracy and which might need broken in for hardball use. To get inch and a half groups at 50 yds. you need inch and a half ammo !

And 1 1/2" eyes.

Zombie Thread, but a lot has changed in the last 4 years. Lots of great guns available today without dipping into your Kid’s inheritance fund ….err, your Retirement fund.
Got to handle lots of M1911s at the Houston NRA Exhibits; it just made it more difficult to decide on which one to supplement my 25 yr old Wilson Combat.
As stated before, you may find a “sundry” 1911 that thinks it’s a Custom. My Good Friend and Former Partner from my LEO career days bought a used SA TRP and it is an utter joy to shoot as well as being remarkably accurate.

I've got a Les Baer Premier II 1.5" model and it comes with a target that supposedly verifies that. I think it was 10 rounds but could have been 8. I have a Leupold Deltapoint Pro on it and at 25 yards, I can do the 1" - 1.5", It would a be a rare group to duplicate it at 50. This is with my reloads shooting lead 200 SWC. It's never had a factory round thru it. It was extremely tight from the start, never a failure, just tight to cycle by hand. I've got a STI 1911 in 10mm and Springfield Trophy Match and the Trophy Match is only thing close to the LB and it's normally 2" - 3" at 25 yards.

I would someday like to have one of those high dollar "braggin" 1911's too, but you might want to take a look at a Colt Gold Cup. They are excellent guns and about as accurate as any handgun I have ever seen. They are not exactly cheap, but still VERY nice.

Any guys from the East Coast or Philly area that have heard of George Madore?
He built Bullseye guns. He tested them at 50 yds with Ransom Rest. 10 shots I ragged hole. Under an inch and a half.

It is Long Slide 38 Super. A varmint's nightmare.
