Need recipe for new Les Baer 1:8 twist 16" barrel

Just acquired a new Les Baer .223 with 1:8 16" barrel. Would really like some help with recipes for accurate loads. Thanks.

1:8 will like everything up to 77gr. Short distance (300 yards or less) try 50-60 grain V-Max, A-Max, HPBT from various manufacturers.

Heavier bullets, try Berger 70gr VLD, Sierra 69gr MatchKing, or the 77gr MatchKing.

Varget is a good starter powder for these, and I'm sure there are many more.
If you are keen on keeping your own reloading data, try AR-Comp with some of the heavier bullets, but be careful (not much loading data out there).

Go to load for most any 223.
I've read the below load, +/- .2gr is the FGGM factory load. I know it shoots in most every 223 I've shot it in.

69 SMK
25.2 Varget
Most any primer
Loaded to mag length.

You can work up beyond 25.2 for your rifle. 25.6 is max in 2 of my rifles.

YMMV

I'm not a great fan of Varget for bullets under 70 grains in my .223
I push 50 grain Noslers with 25.9 grains of H335 - all groups well under .5 MOA from the bench.
52 grain HPLBT Match Spears work well too with similar loads using H335.

* Full length size only*

Varmints:
IMR 8208 Powder
Lake City brass
CCI 450 Primers (Harder cup)
53 Grain V-Max with a 290 BC
2.255 COL
1moa or less to 400 yards

Targets:
75 Hornady match or 77 Nosler Match
IMR 8208 Powder
Lake City Brass
CCI 450's
2.255 COl for mag length rds. longer for single fire if allowed.
1MOA to 300 yards or less. 600 results depend on you and barrel length.

Can't beat 8208 in the .223 VMAX 53's are long for length and really 3,400+ FPS if cranked fullbore.

Benchmark and h322 and blc-2 are all good powders as the ones afformentioned. I like the 68 and 69 grain match bullets,leaning toward the hornady 68 grain match as a great bullet.Bergers are great but a bit more expensive.Your gun will be boringly accurate and you will soon be completly addicted to shooting it.Gotta love the black gun,it is by far one of most fun guns ever built.I use alot of h335 but some feel its temp sensitive.I load alittle on the low side when I can find what it likes.

69 smk/26.2 Varget @ mag length. We shoot this recipe in about a dozen AR rifles including Les Baer. Works great with 8 twist.

The .223 is really simple...here are the only two powders you'll ever need....

35gr.-55gr. bullets------>BenchMark

55gr. to whatever bullets-----> Varget

Brass: Accuracy---->Lapua
Primer---> CCI 450, Federal GM
Anything else is just reinventing the wheel in my opinion

lc or win. case 24gr vv n-140 br4 or rem7-1/2 sierra 77s seated to mag length 1-8 will shoot 80 gr sierras accuratlly but won't feed from magazine

I've been happy with 23.5gr Varget with 77s seated to mag length (2.260") Velocity will be in the 2500s. N140 will get you higher velocity, and what I expect a more consistent load, but Varget is usually available from anywhere and is available in the 8lb keg for reduced lot-lot variation.
