Best Les Baer 1911 for accuracy

Question for one and all-
Of all the 1911 .45's out there, I hear a lot about Les Baer being the most accurate, although I'm sure there are others as good (possibly better). I've saved a bunch of money, and plan to get a Les Baer 1911, but there are quite a few different models.

Anyone have a belief that one is better than another for accuracy at 50 yards?

And then there is the $11, 995.00 Cabot 1911... Haha
Seriously, with some guidance and a little help, you can build yourself a Great Shooting Custom 1911, with a (safe) trigger So Nice, the lawyers wouldn't let any mfg release it.
These guns allow you to take pride in the accuracy that you can squeeze out of your own build!

The LB is the absolute best bang for the buck. If you want to max out you get the 1 1/2" guarantee which includes the target for 50 yards. Great if you can hold 1 1/2" @ 50 yards .
Functionaly they are mostly the same, largely a question of sights, love my Premier II.
Want the Wilson? Beautiful finish, twice as much, less accurate.....you decide.

I have a Premier II and love it. I would recommend the 1 1/2 inch guaranty. Mine is not but still shoots 3 inches at 50 yards.

You may want.to consider getting it in 9 mm. I prefer 1911s in 9mm I have a 45, 40 and 9mm. I have 3 in 9mm. I have had two 38 supers and don't really care for them. Sold them.

Accuracy depends...

Usually on time and money. There are better options if you have both and go custom.

That said, I have an older SRP, It’s really a good shooting pistol. I’d say go over to the 1911 Addicts forum and poke around awhile. Might influence you in another direction.

A bit more insight on different pistols.

All other factors being equal, the pistol having a link that allows the barrel to remain locked the longest will likely be the most accurate. Link fitting being the domain of the smith making the pistol.

I have several built by Matt Gish (worked for Les Baer years ago). Accurate and tight to say the least. Fit and finish for a fraction of the price of current 1911 builders. It's a shame is only builds for the government now.

Had a colleague in the Chicago Police Firearms Training Division get one and had bad accuracy. They said he didn't know how to shoot etc. Problem is he was a master class N.R.A. bullseye shooter. After they found that out he finally got them to resolve the problem. Interesting thing he found out was is they don't test their guns at 50 feet. I don't remember the actual distance but it was short - like 10 to 15 feet. They just figured that if they get a certain size at that short distance that it will do what they say for 50 feet. That was close to two decades ago, so I don't know what they do currently, but I thought it was something to keep in mind.

I cant have one because they advertise they can hold tolerances no cnc machine can do as you see them filing and grinding by hand. Just my personal thing- too many 1911’s out there that are real good. I like nighthawk and wilsons for carry, like a troy harp for accuracy and quality, and dream of having a cabot someday to fill the bridge between all that

IMO
38 super is the way forward!

May not be the best choice for a Marksman but would be for an Expert....I'm thinking that their different models are for different sighting methods and that they all are accurate....should be easy to discern from their advertisements of each model which is most closely fitted for accuracy and which might need broken in for hardball use. To get inch and a half groups at 50 yds. you need inch and a half ammo !

I want it all, link, bushing, quality barrel and hood fit, 70 series ignition, perfect lock up and return to battery, target sights that function smoothly etc...
Don't want much do I?

Among the Bullseye/Precsion Pistol shooters that I shoot with the consensus is that one is better off having a pistolsmith build you a gun. Cost is a bit higher depending upon what the gun needs but at least you know it will shoot to top end standards with MATCH AMMO matched to your pistol.
Sounds familier...

Thanks, all. I think I learned something from each response. It's taken a long time to justify in my own mind a handgun in the vicinity of $2,000 +/- (that Cabot might have to wait a while, lol).

Any recommendations on reliable pistolsmith...eastern U.S. area?
