Best hunting boots you have owned

Hunting season is just around the corner , The terrain here is some of the roughest on the planet. Just wondering what boots you folks are having good luck with?

I bought a pair of Under Armour boots last year and they are by far my favorite and most comfortable I have ever used. We hike a lot of rough steep terrain and I can usually count on slipping and falling on my ass at least once. These have Michelin tire rubber on the soles and I never slipped once last year. These are super comfortable and keep your feet warm when its cold and not too hot in the early season. I really like them and after a season of lots of hiking they still look brand new and held up really well.

Muleman,

I am heading up to Celebration Gap in the Alps this weekend to scout and breath some smoke :) My favorite boots are Hanwags, but I have Danners, Kenetrex, Lowas, and Scarpas. All good boots, but in my experience it is in large part finding the boots that fit your feet best. After close to $3,000 in boots, I have finally found the ones for me. The smartest thing I ever did was call Lathrop & Sons. Those guys know more about boots than anyone alive! I talked to them for about a hlf hour about hunting, hiking, and boots. After asking me about 20 questions, they said I need size 10.5 Howa's. I thought it strange that they could assess my feet based on Q&A over the phone but I am a believer. I took those new boots the Salt River Range in Wyoming for a 12 day backpack hunt (pack over 80 lbs) and my feet never bothered me for a minute. I recommend calling them. They are podiatrists as well as boot makers and sell a lot of different boots. They know their stuff!

Hunting boots are different than pack boots though. If you are not packing, some of the lighter boots may be better. The Hanwags have a 3/4 shank instead of a full one and it is somewhat flexible. They are a nice dual purpose boot and do well in the rocks and rocky trails.

Hope that helps.

As odd as this may sound, Browning Kangaroo featherweights. There like wearing slippers. Maybe not a great mountain boot or warm weather boot but for walking miles and miles, it's a tough one to beat. I've had Kenetrek boots at 3 times the price, Rocky, Danner and many variety of Cabela's boots and none came close. I will say that the US military issue Belleville gortex uninsulated boots take second place for walking boots.

Depends on the forecast.
For mostly good weather, Whites or Nicks are my favorites. I have walked thousands of miles as a wildland firefighter in them. They have never let me down. Both hand made in Spokane, WA.
If the weather is really cold or really wet, a pair of Lowa's work great.

Danner

Pronghorn, 400gm Thinsulate, Gortex. Worn with polypropylene liners and Wigwam El-Pine socks. I wear them Deer hunting in NY and SD when its freezing, Quail hunting in CA when its 100°. On my second pair of the same exact boot.

Kennetrek Mountain Extreme.....they don't give them away, but they are worth every penny. Especially in rough rocky terrain. Buy the wrong boot and you will suffer a twisted ankle {or worse} real quick!!!!

Danner has been my go to.Have a pair of Raptors that I bought in 1998. Still going strong. But I only wear them about 30-40 days a year. Had a pair of GTX`s that lasted 5 years and were worn 5 days a week. I can`t speak for their current offerings. But the stuff from the 90`s was top shelf. Bellville desert boots are also a good comfortable boot that I wear to the range. Jeff
