Best hand primer ?

I had a 50cal primer go off once during seating. That will get your attention!

As to the guys who scoff at seating one primer at a time - I dump out 100 primers on the bench at a time, it takes me 1 second to grab a primer and drop it into the seater. Much better "feel" for loose primer pockets with my K&M than the Lee's ever gave me.

I had to buy another Lee autoprime a couple of years ago. Hopefully it will be more durable than my old one--It only lasted 25 years and about 10,000 rounds ;)

Im happy with the 21st century just ordered another one localy the no tray thing had me abit concerned but after using it for a few months I dont think its a deal breaker for me it dont slow me down much.

Cheers Trev.

Best hand priming tool?

Have used the old Lee, Hornady, RCBS, and Lee's new job. Like the New Lee about best.
Like the priming option on my Redding Super Mag the few times have used it. Lee seems to have really got the best tray feed going these days.

If you uniform your primer pockets you don't need a variable depth adjustable seating press. That is a step back from precision. Uniform your primer pockets and use and RCBS or other collar/broach tool on your flash holes. Uniformity does deliver results.

Thanks Dusty, Think I'm going to try some short range BR this year, after the berger
long-range in AZ. John

I'll get in line right behind Dusty for the units with a tray, especially if they'll take the old round trays! Eric in DL

This is my favorite hand priming tool: RCBS Posi-Prime. Solidly built and great feel. No trays, as it is manually fed. It has been out of production for quite some time probably because it is manually fed.

They come up on fleabay from time to time and use standard shell holders......

You must have had better luck with the rcbs posi prime than me! I have broken the flimsy handle on two of them and probably cannot get any replacements! I went back to using the rockchucker to seat the primers but sure would prefer a durable hand primer withou spending $100! May try the lee but I suspect it will fail the same way! Tom

Hi tcr -

I've seen photos of some old Posi-Primes that appear to have been made of pot metal. Much like the old style Lee screw-in hand primers.

The Posi-Prime models I have, however, seem to be made of a steel construction and have held up very well for decades.

I bought a Sinclair single-feed priming tool from a member here and it's the best quality one I've seen, and on sale at the moment at Sinclair. Having said that, if I were buying new (which doesn't happen often with two little girls needing to go to college some day), I'd buy the 21st Century one. I don't think you'll find anything better than it.
