Best hand primer ?

My RCBS hand primer crapped out again today and I'm really sick of fixing it. I want the best hand primer that doesn't break and the priming ram doesn't hang up all the damned time !
I like the square tray idea and want it to auto feed the primers without me touching them. I have heard good and bad about the Lee Ergo prime and I'm not sure it's any better. Looks like you need to individually place each primer in the 21st Century tool which is a no go me. Are there other options that work better and will auto feed ?
I might go with a bench mounted or replace the one on the top of my Bonanza Co-Ax press with the new style. Just know for sure that I'm sick of the Mickey Mouse RCBS I have.

get a Lee primer tool,,,,20$ and works great ,,,I have two that I used since the 60's,,,one is almost wore out,,,25,000 + reloads,,,Roger

You should check out the Precision Priming Press at Shiraz's. ( Bullets.com) It's for us anal reloaders! 8)

+1 for sure!

You have to single feed the primers with the 21st unit, right?

That's what I figured. I'd like to use one but my fat fingers tend to drop them. Plus I seem to have lost some dexterity as well.

I use a Lee primer tool that screws into the top of a press and has a plastic primer feed system.

I like my K&M, but I don't know how it compares to the 21st Century, Sinclair, etc. Compared to an old Lee or my Redding press, it's awesome. Super fast and easy to use in front of the TV.

I have primer systems by Lee, RCBS, Herter type bench mounted etc. I have never had a hand primer fail to the point I had to 'fix-it'. Years ago there was someone that had problems with dents in the form of half moons in pistol primers. I explained the half moon dents were not caused by the RCBS hand primer. Anyhow, RCBS sent him enough parts to build another hand primer with no improvement. RCBS also made parts for his hand primer, still no improvement.

Then there is the 'old' Lee, I still use them. When it comes to parts I want for nothing, I go to a gun show and find all the parts I will ever be able to use. I assemble the parts, road test them and can not find a fault or reason for replacing them.

It depends... If you are using the large primers the Hornady hand primer with the round tray is hard to beat for the money. I have been using one for about 5 years and it works really well.

However, if you're using small primers, you may want to keep looking. Mine has been giving me problems because the primers are small enough to turn sideways in the tray and ram tube, so sometimes I end up seating a primer sideways. A real pain in the $$$. I suspect this is a common problem for all one-size-fits-all priming tools.

It may be a good opportunity for someone to come up for a modification/new type that fixes that problem. The idea of hand feeding one primer at the time is a loosing proposition for me. Anything that provides an improvement will capture my dollars.

Kindest regards,

Joe

Anyone try the new Lyman hand primer? I was going to try one, but it looks like one would need to tilt the tool toward the face for the primers to feed.

First off I am with the OP on what I want and am NOT interested in any primer tool that you have to insert one primer in it at a time, that to me is totally ridiculous. If that is your cup of tea so be it, just not for me.
I have been using the old Lee ROUND priming tool for a long time. It has it's faults, lid wants to slip off (found a fix for that), and they wear out the plastic edges that lock the top on.

I bought 3 more (when they were available) and on my last one now.

They are the most sensitive unit I have ever used for priming. Other then the above problems, I had no problems 8)

One at a time, you must be kidding :o!

So I am all for gadgets but I still have not figured out the need for high precision here. I understand the need to seat the primers properly below the case head to avoid potential out of battery ignition in a gas gun and to avoid misfires. I uniform all my primer pockets with the Sinclair carbide uniformer and seat the primers down until they stop. But all this talk about using a high tech seater which requires you to put one primer in at a time and how it “improving ballistic uniformity” – any proof to this at all?

I know a lot of precision reloading tool/methods are not proven but at least there is a rationale. What is the rationale here?

Educate me… :D
