Best coyote caliber for pelts

DAA on here uses iirc, a 17-250. His vids show'em just hunching a bit then FLOP. Knocks the snot out of'em. Like 440 volts hitting an incandescent bulb - lights are out.

Bbl burner ? Yes but as a dedicated pelt rig, even he who stacks them high says it will last a lonnng time at one shot per victim.

I know Dave uses the .17 Predator ( .17-223 with the shoulder moved forward ) and the .20-250.

The .17-250 is one i`m not aware of, i guess i need to give Dave a call, obviously it`s been too long.....

Phil.

Hmmm, I'm thinking you may have dislodged some snippets of memory here. I think I'm wrong and you're right.

Are the 20's too hard on them? I wouldn't mind using the 17 Hornet for fox and a 20 br or .204 ruger for yotes...

I GOT A LOTS GREAT RIFLES BUT FRIENDS IN MY OPINION ITS HARD TO BEAT A 223 REM GREAT ALL AROUND

I shoot a 22x243 runnin 75 bergers at bout 3450 and believe it or not it's really easy on fur. Usually no exit hole but it knocks the holy hell out of em. My favorite of all my guns. I personally don't like the 17 and 20 calibers. To light of bullets for the wind around here and as many people that do nothing but educate the coyotes 350-650yds are kind of the norm. Just my opinion.
Also forgot to add you can run the 75's up to about 3600 and 80's to 3500 but brass life is kinda really bad.

except that it blows cats to pieces, foxes are blown to pieces also

These threads always make me laugh.....the OP asked for a caliber/load "to save fur". I take that to mean he wants to kill the animal, but do as little damage to the pelt as possible and everyone jumps on here with calibers and loads that absolutely destroy the target to the point that you had better know what it was BEFORE it was shot!!!!! When you have to do DNA testing to see if it was a coyote or a turtle you got too much gun/bullet.
Most of the caliber/bullet combinations listed so far are excellent to save fur...save it in a big pile, douse it with gasoline and strike a match????? It must be me, when I hear "save fur" I think of a beautiful tanned hide or mounted animal. I think most peoples idea of saved fur means a photograph of a pile of blood, ground meat and some hair. Bullets that expand or blow up so bad that when hit in the hind quarter the animals eyeballs fly out are not fur friendly fellas. A Nosler ballistic tip at 3700 fps??? Hit him in the foot and his brains fly out both ears!!!
All that said, coyotes are not difficult to kill...a full metal jacket 55 grain bullet out of a 223 is what works best for me, but ones that will shoot accurately seem to be no longer made. Last box of Hornady's I bought looked like buckshot on the target...must have been made in the same dies as Nosler Partitions!!!!
