Best Cleaning Rods for .22LR Rimfire?

When I was a kid. My dad had one cleaning rod for all his rifles. One jag. He used to trim patches to fit. Not saying thats the way to go but he was on a tight budget. Doug

I have a couple of Dewey 22 rods (might be CF, don't remember) that I use for all my rifles except my rimfire 22. The RF rifle gets the stainless rod I got back in the 80's, should I ever decide to clean the bore (and that's mostly because the rod lives in the rifle case so is at hand when I do decide to clean it.).

Ok so I ordered the 22 kit from Dewey, and get an instant email back that my account has been created But my email isn't set up so i can't read it then I get another with an invoice that i can read an all is well, just like I saw on the website. Then I get an email that says my order has been received and is being processed. Then this morning I get the 4th email that my rod and 22 kit have been shipped. Thats 4 so far. At 2 this afternoon i get another email that says they are out of the 20 caliber rods and do a want something else. What about the one you already shipped?

Ive got a Bore Tech 27 caliber rod but I just haven't warmed up to it yet, I always go to the Dewey. Habit????

I have a Tipton rod but the handle quit rotating properly.
Any idea's on how to fix it ?

I also have a Dewey that developed a ridge that runs the entire length, I called Dewey and the guy I talked to didn't want to help me at all.

I have BoreTec 22 RF and 20 cal rods. both work on all my RF's except my Ruger American RF. I think the bore guide may be the problem. I also use the 22RF on my AR-15 and it works great and I like it's shorter length. All my other larger rods are Dewey and they also work just like I expect.

I don’t think you can get one anymore, but a 20 cal Ivy rod is the best I’ve used. Uncoated steel, 8-32 threads, small handle with smooth ball bearings. Maybe a pro shot 20 cal rod is the closest you can get now.

The problem with a coated rod in a 22 is that if your gun has a fixed ejector that’s in line with the bore, the plastic coating will get destroyed very quickly. Look for an all steel rod in a slightly smaller diameter, and get a good bore guide.

After I got my 82g and was shooting sb prone...the others were making pull thrust from weed eater line...this would be highly recommended for air rifles w soft steel and brass for vintage

IMO get a polished SS rod sized for your bore and barrel length. use a good bore guide. SS = NO vexing coating peeling, scraping, etc. Mine are Ivey rods but not sure if he still makes them. ProShot a good second choice.

The Dewey 20 caliber rod and 22LR kit came today after the USPS held it for ransom for over a week. They were in fact out of 20 caliber coated rods but had in stock 20 caliber smooth stainless steel rods so i changed my order to that. The kit had patches, jag, bore mop and a nice brass brush. I don't remember my decades old, coated rods being near as nice when they were new. I was more than satisfied.
